I hear an awful lot of noise about people detained, not as much though on those deported

i wouldn't be surprised if the numbers are down across the board, who wants to immigrate to this dumpster fire and look stupid with us right now??? dude still has like 50 pentagon positions to fill and has apparently run out of family..

I think you're kinda mixing up the same people.

Last i heard of enforcement from Trump it was about speeding up the backlog of illegals already in the country going through deportation hearings (part of the process of deportation), not to mention arresting and processing more for deportation, hence the raids.

Normal process is for people caught at the border to just be placed in Mexico, but Obama instead had gone through a process of detaining them, which made no sense. Trumps EO right after his inauguration that addressed this called to simply dump anyone who arrived from Mexico illegally back into Mexico regardless of their home nationality.

there are us citizens who have been detained..i don't think transborderwife is the one mixing stuff up.

p.s. why would we dump all deportations in mexico when not all illegals are mexico. why do you not care about say, canadian visa overstays?

"dump anyone who arrived from Mexico illegally" not "dump anyone who arrived from Canada illegally"

Maybe you should read before responding.

Its called statistics. It works.

Hopefully that is one of your "sarcastic jokes". If you are being serious you need to either retake whatever statistics course you have taken, or enroll in one. You either failed, or your math teacher failed you.

They provide a single number. It is a percentage drop. That is pretty basic arithmetic, not statistics. They provide no p-value, no confidence interval, not even total population within each group (Did it drop from 100 to 33, or did it drop from 1000 to 333. Again if you can't see the difference between those two, you need a statistics course).

The second issue, which they don't address, is whether it is reasonable to infer "total number of illegal immigrants" (which I think we can all agree is near impossible to count up) from "total number of illegal immigrants caught at the border" (which we can all agree is much easier to count). There are number of confounders in that. You have to assume a lot of other things are constant. There is no evaluation of that inference.

I think it is better for us all to just assume you were trying to make a joke.

Nah, no need. Have fun trying to bait other people. :)

you're still confused as ever..asking if a person is on drugs as a response is pretty bait-y. i just asked a question, in relation to the op and your comments (this is called an 'internet forum').

i would honestly love to know how you feel about the american citizens who have been detained by ice without proper authority.

I dont think we do catch and release any more

Not according to Alipac...I've read quite a few stories on their forums about those who have been.  plus all but one of the DACAers caught have been released.

Here's the actual committee hearing for those interested: https://www.hsgac.senate.gov/hearings/03/27/2017/fencing-along-the-southwest-border

Aguilar's written testimony: http://www.hsgac.senate.gov/download/testimony-aguilar-2017-04-04

I'm busy so y'all knock yourselves out finding out what he really said -- I am skeptical of conclusions where there is only one semi-reputable source providing analysis.
