Hi,

I have my interview scheduled this Friday and I'm only now finding out that I will be needing the NBI instead of police clearance. (Many thanks to the folks over at the other thread for letting me know.)

Here's my predicament:

-My NBI clearance is 9 months old

-With the new NBI processing system and mandatory online scheduling (unless you go directly to MNL City Hall, which will not be an option for me at all this week), I simply won't have the time. At all.

I would just like to hear from others who have had a similar experience with their NBI certificate at the embassy. Iffy shelf life and all. But I mean, 3 months is still kicking, right? It's TECHNICALLY valid for another 90 days. (Are you even allowed to renew in this case?) So: Is a 9 month old certificate any grounds for the CO / whoever to turn you down? I've considered rescheduling... which would be my second, and last unpenalized.

Thanks, all.

PS. I was just at the Embassy this morning for my initial schedule but sent myself back due to the stupidest, tinniest and probably most obvious oversight on my part. Glad to get that embarrassment out of the way. Needless to say I'm a tad bit worked up about my second shot.

Should be okay. Like you said, it's valid for 12 months... obviously getting one 1-2 months old is maybe seen as better, but you should be fine. Worst case is they ask for a newer one at the interview and you have to just go get it and turn it in, just small delay really but should be fine with the one you have.

Embassy likes to see the NBI not older than 6 MONTHS!

You should consider getting a new NBI, validity of the NBI has nothing to do with what USEM may want.     Most COs during the interview look for the NBI to be not older than 6 months.   You could end up with a 221g requesting a new NBI, which will add a week or two to the processing after the interview.

USEM likes the NBI to be no older than 6 months at the time of interview.  All aka used must be searched. 221g will be issued if yours is older or not all aka searched. This adds a few more weeks of processing.

true... NBI should be more than 6 months otherwise they will give you 221g. Same thing happened to me. It took me another two weeks before i finally get my visa. They are kinda strict about NBI clearance .
