ROC Additional Evidence for Interview

Hi again everyone!

So I've been selected for an interview for ROC after a 5 month wait (see my initial freak out thread here).

After my initial crazy panic attack and anxiety break down (I'm still anxious and freaking out but not to where I'm going to make myself sick), I've reviewed this with my hubby (USC) and we think it's because we didn't send enough primary evidence.

We live with his mother in law. We did not have joint utilities we could provide, nor a joint lease. We sent a ton of other stuff, like two car purchases, a car loan (including a 5 year one taken out just before the date of the package), health insurance, life insurance with him as the beneficiary, photos, joint bank account, bank statements, tax transcripts, me as an authorized user on his credit card, two affidavits (not notarized though), itinerary and boarding passes for our honeymoon, gym membership in both our names and showing where we checked in together, and a temporary lease showing me, him and his mother in law for four months in 2014 when our house was smashed in a storm. He doesn't work and he doesn't have a whole lot.

But again, we could not send a joint lease or joint utilities. We sent letters explaining for each sections saying we didn't have more and why; I think because I already sent letters of explanation with the initial packet, they knew I couldn't send more, and so sent it straight for interview to discuss face to face.

ANYWAY:

We've been looking at what else we could provide. We want to print out his mother in law's cell phone bill which has me on it (we pay for it, it's just cheaper under her plan). How much do after-the-fact things help? We've thought about making POA's for each other, and setting up a joint CC. Honestly, we are moving from SC to WA in two months, so the interview fell at a really bad time. After June, we would have a lease with our names on it, and we are finally moving out from the MIL and so will co-mingle our assets even more. We've even discussed lumping together savings which I will invest with compound interest. I might have a Seattle lease by my interview on May 10, but might not. We will certainly be a ways into the process and are working with our realtor currently.

Does anyone have any advice? Is joining a credit card and making Power of Attorney after the fact very useful?

(On a better note - provided the interview doesn't mess up and they try to kick me out, Presidio Graduate School (Seattle) is talking to me about being admitted for their Green MBA program outside of my 9-5 job, yayyyy)

If you didn't already, (I'm sure you did):

  • print copies of every month's statement on the bank account(s) and credit card(s).
  • get your mother in law to write a letter/rental/roommate agreement and all of you sign it.
  • pictures of you two in the time between filing and now
  • this year's tax return, blah blah blah

You're probably right - they know you don't have any more to send and they didn't see you at the AOS stage so they want to look you and hubby in the eyes. So be as relaxed as you can be and have him there with you and just be as charming and happily married as you can be!
