Hi!

I am getting married in May but I still haven't receive my notice for finger printing. The question is what do I need to do to inform IO that I am married during my naturalization process? Thank you very much! I will be very appreciated if anyone don't mind to share your experience 🙏

you bring a copy of your marriage certificate and you inform the officer that you have gotten married, so the officer can add the document to your file and correct your N400

the officer might ask you if you want to change your name

What I will have to do is just show the officer my marriage certificate during the interview, correct? I don't need other documents beside a copy of my marriage certificate? Will the IO ask the my spouse's immigration status? Thank you very much. I doubt that will ruin my process. :(

Yes, the officer will most definitely ask about your spouse's immigration status, it is a mandatory question on the N-400 because marriage is an avenue for immigration benefits in the U.S. which has a family based immigration system. So by being your husband he becomes entitled to immigration benefits.

So along with your marriage certificate you should bring along his documentation as well, as you will need his personal information to be updated on your form.

Also, if he / she had been married before, you will probably need to show proof that all his / her earlier marriages ended , as in a copy of their divorce decree from their prior spouse before you.

Also, if your spouse has children , bring along their documentation as well, you will need to update their information on your N-400 form as well, because they will, as well, become eligible for immigration benefits.

What kind personal documents for him do I need to bring? And he is a DACA recipient, maybe what immigration status he is at right now? Thank you very much for your reply.

I am not sure , but I would presume he has to bring passport, state issued id, document showing his current immigration status in the U.S.- Again , not sure, but these come to mind.
