applying for social security number

My question is when my fiance arrives in USA does he apply for social security number right away? Can he? everything I read it seems that he can .

Out of everything I've read, people say to wait about 2 weeks to make sure that his name would be in the system. Otherwise they have to do some manual lookup which takes even longer for him to get his SSN.

It's probably safer to wait + - two weeks before applying.

However, we only waited a week and my fiance received his SSN in a few days. of applying

Wait a couple of weeks. I applied straight away, and as my info was not in the system, I ended up waiting a couple of months. it's a very easy process, though.
