Are you filing N400? I think I will wait...

I already filed in late March.

My local office is unfortunately pretty backed up so I may be one of those unlucky ones whose I-175 gets delayed due to waiting in line for N-400, but I figured I didn't mind a delay of a couple of months in my I-175, as I'll still technically be in status and the over-all immigration timeline is cut short, as now both waiting periods are overlapping.

Basically I am looking at a 6-8 month wait, most likely, before getting a joint interview for my I-175/n-400.

Whereas if I didn't apply for the N-400, I would first wait 6 months for I-175, then an another 6-8 months for the N-400.

So overall, I felt like this might make my journey to citizenship quicker. But, every situation is different and some people may prefer the security of having the 10 year green card in hand as soon as possible, rather than being in this limbo state.

Hopefully now other than going for the stamp once the extension expires, I don't need to do anything and can forget about all this till one day I get that wonderful surprise in my mailbox.

I filed the i751 in April 2017 (NOA1 date 4/20/17) and after the biometrics for it, it seemed to sit at CSC until I filed my n400 on 4/1 this year. Then a few days later, I received a Notice of Transfer (online update and paper in the mail) to NBC (National Benefits Center in Lee's Summit, MO.)

From what I gather from other posters across different threads here, it seems to be a pretty common occurrence now to get the i751 transferred to NBC after filing the n400. The consensus seems to be that the n400 triggers this so NBC can combine the two and arrange interviews. (But then I've also seen at least one poster who never filed an n400 at all and still got this transfer, and actually received an i751 approval within a few weeks - that probably isn't the norm though.)

Anyway, I'm just curious if anyone knows:

My status now shows my n400 as "wait time: 11 months" (with est. completion time saying 12 months) probably because I'm in Southern California. But if they really combined the i751 case with the n400 (and my extension letter expires in less than 2 months), is it really still likely that they'll hold the i751 for a combined interview more than a year from now?

Hi all,

Sorry, late to the party but wanted to provide info on my wife’s case.

I-751

Received at VSC: 4/19/2017

Biometrics: 6/7/2017

Case Approved: 4/20/2018

So approved in exactly 12 months and 1 day. Her green card expired 7/12/2017.

We got the same “case transferred to local office” at the end of February and on April 9th. We moved and filed a change of address on 12/29/2017

Congratulations!!!

Ours as well, I came here together with my 3 children. We’re so blessed all of us approved and interview was waived since CR. The only thing bothered me is my oldest son 19yo his new gc is still on producing picture capturing incomplete as what the USCIS officer told me when we went for infopass😔 so that’s the only gc we’re waiting then I can apply N400.

NVC service center. My NOA is April 5, 2017.8A1D9C2E-CC6B-41C0-AB4B-91B6E41D2DB7.thumb.jpeg.e62562993e61fdecd2f73060286ed6cb.jpeg

Hello dear immigrants!

I just joined the forum. I mailed my I - 751 in April 2017, apparently in 03/05/2018 my case was received by the local office (CA). Is it true that is taking them between 17.5-19 months to resolve the cases??? My I -797 obviously will expire in April, what happens if i want to travel? Do I have to get an I - 551 stamp in the passport?

Thanks!

Hi, in my case my service center is NVC.

It took 5 weeks processing before it got approved after transferred to my local office. Actually, you will be approve same day of the month you got your NOA last year.

And also you can get I-551 stamp just Incase you want to travel anytime soon for security.

God bless!!!

I received RFE for my application filed on 30 March 2017, I was just wondering how much time approximately would it take to receive Green Card also my Driving License is expiring, and in NJ they don't renew license from RFE letter.  I renewed my license last year with i-797 extension letter.

Filed n400 last week and we too have a notice stating a 12 month wait time. I think this is just a default message.

Hi get an infopass app and get your passport stamped to renew your license until you get your green card. After they receive your evidence it can take 2 weeks or 2 months there is not an exact time with uscis
