I would like information about my boyfriend moving from Jamaica to US. I went to Jamaica for my birthday with 7 other friends and stayed at a resort in Negril. One of the employees was very interested in talking to me but was shy so he told one of my friends. I was suppose to meet after he got off work but I did not. For some reason I didn't see him but my friends kept running into him aND he would ask about me. It wasnt until the last day I met him after he got off work. We exchanged numbers and have been talking ever since which has been almost two years. Things have gotten serious the past six months where we video chat several times a day. I talk to his mother and brother often. We decided to be in an official loooooong distance relationship. I recently went back to visit last month. I paid for my flight but he saved up his money to pay for the resort and everything we did and ate while I was there. I thought that was a big deal because he showed me his check stubs. He doesn't make very much at all so he made alot of sacrifice to do that. I make almost times the amount he makes. We had a good time while I was there. We did not have sex! I am still a virgin and he respects that I want to wait until we are married. I truly do love him and he shows he loves me as well. He is very respectful and hardworking. I'm going back for his birthday in six months and he is willing to pay for that as well. We plan to get married in two years in Jamaica. He is 29 and I'm 31. He doesn't have any children. He really wanted me to move to Jamaica after we are married but I do not want to because I take care of my elderly father and don't know if I can find a job there. So to make it work he decided to move here. I'm confused on the process of him obtaining permanent residency. Is it better for us to get married in us or Jamaica? Does it matter? Should we apply for visa before marriage while we are just engaged? Help I'm so confused I don't know anyone who has gone through the process and neither does he?

Congratulations on your engagement!  I myself married my husband in Jamaica and did the Cr1/Ir1 visa route.  It took us a total of 9 months, which is actually a little quicker than normal.  The norm is about a year.  There is also the K1 route which is a finance visa.  I preferred the idea of the Cr1/Ir1 route because it allowed my husband to obtain a SS# immediately upon arrival to the states and allowed him to work immediately also.  He is not one to sit around waiting to work. It was a very smooth process. With the K1, they will have to wait several months to be able to work.  To educate yourself more on each type of visa, so to www.travel.state.gov and www.uscis.gov and review the steps.  There is an excellent flow chart on www.travel.state.gov.  Also the guides here on VisaJourney are excellent.  Read them over and read the forums.  You can do this entire process on your own with the help from these resources.  After reviewing if you still have questions, post them here and so many people will help.  Everyone is awesome!  You are welcome to private message me any questions also.  Best wishes to you and your honey!!

Also, fill out your timeline on here and your posts will go into the Jamaican forum so that you can get firsthand info from fellow Jamaicans.
