Good afternoon vj family. My husband an I was married on March 16th. I just returned home. An Im going to file the cr-1 visa it ask for a marriage certificate do I send a copy of the one that was given to me after our ceremony.

you need to send a copy. Originals are only required at the interview. You can use as original document the one they gave you once you got married

You should be fine.  Is it written in English, if not then you need a certified copy with English translation.

Any copy will do. It doesn't need to be certified as some have said. Trust me. I successfully went through the Ghana embassy this year. As I stated before I sent in a normal copy that was made at a copy store to the USCIS and another one during the NVC phase. My husband took the original to the interview.

I know it says send a photo copy but can I send in a copy of the one they gave me after we got married. Remember I got married in Ghana so I don't know if they have what they call the office one

Where did you celebrate the marriage? Church? Court? Metropolitan Assembly? The marriage certificate should be either green and white, or blue and white. It is signed by both parties and the four witnesses and the person who officiated the marriage. Please do make sure it has the Ghana coat of arms otherwise you'll get an RFE

Greatly appreciated O&G forever. May I ask how long did the process take from start to finish

From petition sent to interview, it took about 10 months. We were fortunate that everything went very smooth...no RFE. A lot will depend on how quickly the USCIS and the NVC is processing things. When you get to the NVC phase, there are some ways that you can speed up the process a bit. When you're ready, look for the wiki on this site and follow it. It cut probably 3-4 weeks off our process.

Feel free to message me if you have any questions through the process.

I think you may have sent in the marriage certificate form.  I recieved that when we got married but was also issued a official certificate  with a seal.  I'm not sure how your country works but maybe there'should a wait for the official certificate. I would call the marriage certificate office and ask them for an official certificate see what they tell you

You only need to send photocopy at the filing stage. Don't be confuse.
