Hello guys,

Me and my fiance are currently applying for the k1 visa, Iam from Egypt, while searching about the process documents that we gonna need, one of em is the military certificate, as the embassy will ask for it before the interview, my problem is that now I have temporarily exemption and gonna be ending on this December ( approx  6 months after the interview) will this be a problem at the embassy ? I mean does they need a certificate will longer period exemption? Does anyone have any experience abt this specially at the consulate at Egypt? Thanks all

Your army exemption ends 6 months after the interview?

I don't think you'll have a problem with that for the embassy interview.  I think you'll possibly have issues for when you are trying to leave the country.  But that depends on how long after the interview you are waiting for your visa approval.

Sometimes it can take months to get the final visa in your passport.  Its depends on if you get stuck in AP.

You'll definitely need army clearance to leave though.  My husband and I waited an additional 10 days after the visa was approved for the army clearance so that he could leave.  If your exemption is expired by that point I think you'll run into problems.

The interview was pretty easy.  I flew to Egypt to be with him.  Originally we had heard that I wouldn't be able to enter the embassy but that turned out to be untrue.  So thankfully I was by his side the entire time.  I think that helped us both.

The case officer just asked a few questions and we showed her some pictures.  It was maybe 15 minutes in total.

You'll definitely want to have all your documents in order though.  We saw a couple of others being sent away because they were missing things.

I might recommend emailing the embassy to tell them about the military certificate expiration.  They are really really awful about responding with any kind of real answers or information so you might need to try a few times.  But I always feel its better to have yourself covered.  That way your case isn't delayed.

That's a good idea, but the problem is that I don't have an alternative, so I just hope it goes easily, and we thought of being together in the interview but wasn't sure if they will let her in or not, so thanks a lot for this confirmation, our case now just got approved and sent to NVC, hope they reply us fast and send the papers to the embassy asap! My congratulations for u and ur husband!

So long as the US citizen brings an American passport they can enter.

If you check our timeline we were pretty on target for dates and such.  One note, our case was held up due to an embassy mistake that occurred between receipt of what they call packet 3 and the scheduling of our interview.  That mistake cost us about 3 weeks roughly.

It was extremely frustrating.  But everything else we did in the process we completed as fast as we could.

My husband was exempt too and thankfully we were covered for a while after the interview.  I just hope your case is smooth and easy.
