Below is a quick summary of today's trip to our local USCIS office in Philadelphia for an Infopass appointment. The main concern was my wife's EAD/AP card being past the usual 90 day processing time frame. I've collapsed the summary into a "spoiler" section since it's a little long and some people might not want to read the whole thing.

So, here goes:

  Reveal hidden contents
  • We arrived right at 1:00 PM for our 1:15 PM appointment, which was good since the registration window didn't reopen until after the ISO's finish their lunch breaks at 1:00 PM.
  • We went through airport-style security although we didn't have to take off our shoes. :)
  • The guy at the registration window (#1) was pleasant and helpful although all he did was ask us about our reason for visiting and assigned us a number. (Side note: I thought we already supplied this information when we made the appointment.)
  • We went back and sat down. We were called up about 5 minutes later and approached ISO Benedict's window. He was easy to talk with although not particularly chatty or jovial. Par for the course?
  • I explained our concern that my wife's application was received on April 13 with no further notices (beyond biometrics appointment on May 26 and SR response on August 7). He was able to tell me that my wife's EAD/AP application was in front of an officer as of August 8. Her interview was also in queue to be scheduled as of July 28. I told him that she's a K1 adjuster and was curious to know if the interview had been waived at this point. He said there was nothing on his screen showing one way or another.
  • He also mentioned that the "new administration" is causing lots of people to apply for various immigration benefits which is causing a backlog. (Not sure I believe that one, but I figured people here would be interested in hearing this.)
  • Here's something interesting I learned: because my wife applied for an EAD/AP combo card, the ISO said that both applications must be adjudicated together. (Sounds to me like another silly excuse for processing to take longer.)
  • I asked whether our case was being held up by something like an FBI Name Check, background check, etc. and he was able to tell me that "no derogatory information" was associated with our file. So that's good to know, at least!
  • He started talking about going down the expedite route and I asked what options we had. The reasons include financial hardship, humanitarian concerns, or a pending job offer. Unfortunately, my wife can't claim any of these. I asked whether it would make sense to bother with that at this point since her case is already in the hands of an adjudicator. He agreed that it probably wouldn't speed things up at this point.
  • He said that we should wait another 30 days before contacting USCIS. If we hear nothing, he encouraged us to make another Infopass appointment and skip the other channels. And here's the kicker: he specifically said to avoid calling the (mis-)information line/customer service!
  • Overall this was a productive visit, although I walked out the same way I walked in...we still need to wait. :(
  • We were out the door by 2 pm and made our way to the grocery store to grab some hot peppers and Thai basil for dinner tonight!

That's it!

Thank you for posting a detailed overview! :) Is the status on the I-485 at 'fingerprints fee was received' or is it 'ready to be scheduled for interview'?

This question is for all fellow posters: I'm wondering if I could do an infopass for my I-485 still stuck at 'fingerprint fee received' for more than 4 months now. Since EAD/AP cases are expected to be adjudicated by the 90-day mark, is there such a timeframe for the I-485 cases such as 6 months or so? I know it depends on the local field office processing times that they use to determine whether the case is outside processing times, but can we inquire about our I-485 after a certain time?

As evident by my recent posts, I'm beginning to get more anxious.

This is really helpful. I have an infopass appointment in Providence on Monday.

Also, the SR I put in on 7/28 was assigned and completed today (8/9); so far no changes to the status of EAD or AP.

Base on my experience with SR after completion three days later my EAD n AP case got approved. So I would advise you to wait it out until after 3 days from today. Good luck.

Sounds like it was a good appointment, but also kind of 'oh damn...back to waiting' ...haha. Well at least you know that her case is 'in line' and will hopefully move along soon!

You've kind of inspired me to make an infopass appointment because I'm now at day 115 and my only progress has been a successful biometrics (way back in mid May) and the I-485 'interview ready to be scheduled' status change. As I said I put in one SR and haven't had a reply... do you think an infopass appt would be wise??

(worked out how to edit ha) - ps I was looking at my field office where I'd make my infopass appt and it says 'If you are not within the San Bernadino jurisdiction, we may not be able to service you.' ---- does that mean if this isn't the office processing my case? All I know is National Benefits Center is handling my case... so what does that mean? Confused :/

It was a good appointment and I feel better about where our case stands...but we're still waiting. An Infopass appointment couldn't hurt BUT it seems like it's very difficult to get one in big cities, including here in Philly. YMMV, especially in a smaller city.

From what I gathered in this forum, the I-765 and I-131 are processed at the NBC and the I-485 is sent from there to be processed at your local USCIS office, which may or may not decide to schedule an interview. I do not think you need a I-130 status change to be scheduled for an interview, it establishes your eligibility for the I-485 and if the status for I-485 is 'ready to be scheduled for interview' it has done its job.

I think you live in Philadelphia and it being a big city may result in waiting a little longer to be scheduled for an interview. But then I am in Boston and I got scheduled in two months so who knows really.

Congrats on the EAD and I hope you hear about interview soon!

Thanks very much! You got scheduled 2 months from when? Was it when your online status changed you got notified of your interview date, or within two months of your status changing you had the interview? I feel I'm becoming obsessed with this all now...... sigh.

You're right! I'm expecting for the card to be mailed out to me by Tuesday and receive it by Saturday (latest next Monday) ^_^

Yessss I hope this week is your week, it has to be!!!!:dancing: Ohhh yes, that's exactly what the officer at the InfoPass appointment told me. She even told me the day that my case was passed to the 'adjudication stage'. From that day to the day I received the status update, 15 days have passed. Did the officer on the phone tell you when your case was passed to the adjudication stage?

Its always nice to see you two talking and keeping each others' morale up! this is what VJ is all about, its almost like a buddy system in school lol so that you wont get lost... :D

BTW sometimes the status doesnt even change from card is being produced, I currently have a priority mail on the way to me from the USCIS Corbin KY CPF or Card Production Facility and it should be here today(hopefully its my GC), I know about it coz of USPS informed delivery and myusps and my status still says card is being produced... Fingers crossed and hopefully I will have GC in hand before end of day today... Best of luck with the rest of your process!

Congrats to all those who have received their EADs, scheduled for interviews and received their green cards. It's encouraging to see April filers making progress. :)

I had a question for all those waiting for their I-485 online status to change (for those of you who don't have interview dates yet): is there anyone still at "fingerprint fee received" or do all of you have it changed to "case ready to be scheduled for interview" ? I'm still on the former stage and it's past 120 days. :clock:

I think you should put in an SR about that @strider4 coz it does seem that some people at least have gotten that status change and 120 days is too long to go without a status change and i don't think you have anything to lose with filing an SR... Best of luck with your process...

hey @Rachelberry welcome to this topic, I would suggest that, as the one thing most of us have lots of, is free time (due to the fact that we are going thru this process and cant do much else till its done or at least till we get EADs) maybe you should go back 10 pages or so and start reading all the posts from then on, as you might find the answers to questions that you have asked as well as some questions u didn't even know u had... In my opinion that would help you understand what most of us have been going through and how most of our timelines look... Just a suggestion...

P.S. dont worry about being obsessed, almost everyone on here are obsessed about their cases and that's very normal...

USCIS updated processing times on the website today (Aug 10). As of June 30, NBC has been processing I765 and I131 applications as of date April 1, 2017. I just can't believe that the volume of applications in April was just so high that they still haven't processed the ones of people who are 120+ days now.

So frustrating.

Hello,

My husband got a call back from the congressman today. I should wait some weeks more, as some of you know USCIS updated their processing times on the website today (reconfirmed also by Congressman's office). My case case received by USCIS on 4/13 ... at least they also said that there is not pending documents/RFE from my side so far.

On 4/22 we will attend the INFOPASS Appointment as well. This was incredible, I was able to set up an available space by accessing the webpage at 12:01 a.m. last Tuesday, over Here Houston that office is very busy.

⏳⌚⏱🕝🕜🕧⏰⏳🕰⏲🕘🕦🕡🕣🕞🕤🕢🕤 It's a waiting game.
