Hi April Filers,

 

What is the difference between an I-134 Affidavit for Support and an I-864 Affidavit for Support.  I know I'm supposed to use the I-134 for this K-1 process, but I'm curious about the other form and when it's used. Thanks in advance!

864 is for spousal and at the AOS stage and perhaps later on at Removing Conditions. not sure on the last part, I haven't read that far ahead

Any filipinas/Filipinos that can explain the CFO subject to me again..my fiance scheduled an appointment..but I feel like they're asking for more information than the American embassy is..

What's frustrating is our petitions go thru Background checks, then pre-screen, and finally on to the Adjudicator who apparently likes to issue an RFE 4-1/2 months after submission. People tend to get a bit sideways when that happens.

I don't pity them one bit, it's their job. At the end of the day they get to go home and kiss their SO and children and live their life. They don't have to keep reassuring a freaking out Fiancee, that everything will be fine, we just have to be patient.

When is the background check process started? When the application first gets touched by the adjudicator, or before? For instance, I am a June filer, is there a possibility that a background check has already been issued, meaning are they usually initiated months before the NOA2, or no?

Backround checks are first process at CSC. they have to be completed before anything else, normally completed within the first 45 -60 days...usually, but whats that these days?

Interesting. I never knew about this. Any idea as well what makes some take longer than others?

That is the million dollar question right now...the simple answer is no..case load perhaps...current processing times are 135 days on average...some longer, some shorter

I mean for background checks. For USC who have really long background checks, are the reasons for that known?

Yeah! Ain't that a hoot?   They ask for all kinds of info that they really do not need to know.

 

Kind of sucks gathering what they need, it is rather a distraction in this whole process.

It all depends...For instance: If there is a previous criminal record, history of living/working outside the US or if USC was a petitioner previously they would want to know what happened there...etc

It's hard to advise accurately because everything is moving slower right now than usual. I wouldn't stress on it at this point because you are just over two months in.

Just afraid mine will take forever because I have lived abroad extensively in the past few years.
