I'm more of a lurker than a poster, but....   Receive Date: 4/5/17 NOA1 Approval: 4/10/17 NOA2 Approval: 8/7/17   Just got it in the mail yesterday!

OMG I just got a notification on my app, we got our NOA2 just now!! It's nearly midnight and I was actually going to sleep but wanted to check something on my iPad and it popped up. So so happy.

Why?  Medical history is personal and is protected by HIPAA.  You are not married to the beneficiary, you don't have the right to know it.  If they choose to tell you, that is up to them.

Although I agree it's not uscis job to tell the petitioner, I STRONGLY DISAGREE with the sentiment they don't have the right to know. Even thought they aren't married they are planning (in the process) to get married and the petitioner is going to be responsible for fitting the medical bills.  Not to mention it's dishonest and unethical to not disclose anything to your partner that could potentially be a roadblock in the future.  A partner not trusting or open enough to share medical details is a deal breaker for me.

@Cruise77 I do agree with you that they do have a right to know, but the beneficiary is not required to give the information.  As @Estibaliz says it is a trust issue.  If you trust them, they should let you know if there is a problem.

Also my point is, if you don't trust your future spouse is being open and honest about each and every aspect of their lives, that you think you need to know via a third party, then why are you getting married? 

 

And I think that goes both ways, petitioner and beneficiary... And because this is a US thing, I hardly doubt the beneficiary is going to be informed about the criminal history of the petitioner, if any.

Actually, the other day I caught on TV that silly show, '90 Days to Wed', and this guy was having trouble finding a place to rent, because it turned out he had a criminal record for selling weed and even had been in jail, and the Russian fiance knew nothing about it.

Hah! That is one silly show indeed :P

 

Edit. Oh, and BTW, because this always bothers me. No one is going to be responsible of my medical bills. Of course my other half is going to add me to his medical insurance through work and blah blah blah. But I would be paying for my medical expenses using my savings. I'd probably be paying for his bills too if it was something major.

@Estibaliz, it is a silly show.  Of course she is using him for money, she has basically said that he promised her a certain lifestyle and she wouldn't be with him if he can't deliver.  Yes I watch it.  Not sure why because none of them seem to be based in any reality.  Lol :jest:
