Scott Pruitt’s own agency scientists found the chemical can cause irreversible harm.

WASHINGTON — Defying the recommendation of his own agency’s scientists, Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt has refused to ban a widely used pesticide that’s been linked to learning disabilities in children.

Pruitt’s order, signed late Wednesday, allows chlorpyrifos, an organophosphate insecticide that’s been used on crops from broccoli to cranberries since the 1960s, to remain on the market for agricultural use. The EPA proposed in November 2015 under the Obama administration to permanently ban the chemical on food crops, citing potential risks to human health. The move stemmed from a 2007 petition filed by the Natural Resources Defense Council and the Pesticide Action Network North America.

Critics on Thursday condemned Pruitt and President Donald Trump for showing they value corporate profits over public health. The move, less than two months after Pruitt was confirmed as the nation’s top environmental officer, signals far looser regulation of harmful substances under the Trump administration.

So why didn't the Obama EPA ban it themselves?  Seems like they sat on it for 8 years and now it's Trump's fault.

Everything is. Great point.

Remember DDT and all the hysteria. Banning DDT has killed many many 1000's. Most of the hoopla was deemed alarmist BS.

So DDT was really dangerous and the hoopla was actually true?

Worse than reading fake news is assuming.

The use of chlorpyrifos has been subject to successive restrictions since 2000. It has been shown to cause neurological and developmental side effects for years. The EPA petitioned to revoke pesticide tolerances for chlorpyrifos in 2015. The resulting risk assessment, completed in November 2016 showed chlorpyrifos residue and ground water contamination to be worse than previously thought, exceeding the FDA safety tolerance. In march 2017, the EPA denied the petition to revoke pesticide tolerances but declined to ban or further limit the use of the pesticide even though environmental safety levels have already been exceeded. The EPA, under Pruitt, instead chose to take until October 2022 to study 'just how bad' the neurological and developmental side effects can be.

No it wasn't. DDT was banned worldwide for good reason. It's only remaining use is for malaria control, but it's rarely even used for that as there are better alternatives.

There is a lot of propaganda about DDT coming from several conservative groups. That the conservative anti-regulatory agenda promotes stuff like this shouldn't lead to people being brainwashed that it is safe. Ongoing research has only further supported the neurological, developmental and carcinogenic risks associated with this chemical.

Go back to where you came from Hippie!  In America we cherish KFC with a side of DDT. If we wanted vegetables we would ask for ketchup with our well done steak.
