I've kept pretty busy this weekend.. but I swear this weekend has dragged on! I'm sure it's because we thought Dave would surely have his visa by now. His interview was the 28th. Yep, I'm impatient like this. What sucks is we kept looking at flights about the 9th or 10th and now he can't even call the Embassy until the 10th. They even asked him at the interview when he wanted to fly over and he told them those dates and the guy wrote it down. Obviously they got busy with something else. I know I'm whining and I don't have really a big reason to, its basically only been a week. But I still felt like it, so here I am! It's like my whole life is changing except for this one part.. which is Dave. New job, new car, new life with my man once he gets his butt over here.

Hey, I just wanna say I fought writing this all day, but I just wanted to complain to someone!

Good luck everyone.

Keep in mind that there were holidays there on Friday and another one tomorrow for Easter. I'm sure the SMS weren't working Friday, probably won't work Monday either.

Whether or not the embassy works those days, I dunno.

It is crazy how many bank holidays they get. The embassy website does say that they will be closed on Monday as well. Hope you hear something on Tuesday though! Good luck!

Yes, I asked my fiance why he decided to move over here instead of me just moving there, where we'd have tons more days off! My family keeps asking about what Dave has heard and I have to explain that they get Good Friday off and that they even have Easter Monday there as well so we most definitely won't hear anything until Tuesday.

You actually get far more Official Holidays in the USA than you do in the UK:

Federal Legal Holidays 2007

• January 1, 2007: New Year's Day [Jan. 1 every year]

• January 2, 2007: national day of mourning, Gerald R. Ford

• January 15, 2007: Martin Luther King Day [3rd monday in Jan]

• February 19, 2007: Presidents Day (observed) [3rd monday in Feb]

note: Presidents Day is also Washington's Birthday (observed)

• May 28, 2007: Memorial Day (observed) [last monday in May]

• July 4, 2007: Independence Day [July 4 every year]

• September 3, 2007: Labor Day [1st monday in Sept]

• October 8, 2007: Columbus Day (observed) [2nd monday in Oct]

• November 11, 2007: Veterans' Day [Nov. 11 every year]

• November 22, 2007: Thanksgiving Day [4th thursday in Nov]

• December 25, 2007: Christmas Day [Dec. 25 every year]

Whereas the UK gets these official days off:

New Year, Good Friday, Easter Monday, May Day, Spring (May 28th), Summer Bank Holiday (August), Christmas and Boxing Day.

Well...yes and no. In the UK I get every bank holiday off work, but in the US I only got New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, 2 days at Thanksgiving, and Christmas. I never got MLK, President's Day, Columbus Day, or Veteran's Day off work. For me that makes 8 bank holidays in the UK, only 7 in the USA. The only people who get all those days off in the USA are federal and usually state employees. For me Columbus Day meant I wouldn't get any mail; that's about all! :crying:

The majority of people who get the UK Bank Holidays off are government employees, office workers and the Post Office! All the other shops are open as usual.

P.S. Homesick American ~ Didn't you leave VJ and say you were never coming back?? ;)

Being an office worker, I guess I'm just lucky. :innocent:

Yes, I did leave VJ. Like I told someone else who PM'd me to welcome me back, we're preparing for the final push back to the United States so I thought I'd drop in to soak up some advice on moving back to America after so many years away. Despite the disagreements I had with some members, I always got good advice here.

Yeah, I used to work at Walmart which meant the only day we ever got off was Christmas day. The other 5 holidays we just got paid for even if we worked, which was somewhat nice, but still not being off. And now, I work in a bank, but of course it has to be one of those darn banks that only has like 6 holidays a year too. My fiance is always talking about his parents having to take so much time off, I want that! And then him and his friends have always been able to take holidays whenever they felt like it. Like him coming over to see me. I usually had to take some unpaid time off just to be with him. lol And he'd still have some extra time throughout the year to take off.

I remember feeling exactly the same way over Christmas and New Year while awaiting our NOA2 - I was cursing the stupid festive season and couldn't wait for it to be over! Still... back to normal tomorrow, fingers crossed the visa will arrive very very soon!

2005 - We met

2006 - Filed I-129F

2007 - K-1 issued, moved to US, completed AOS (a busy year, immigration-wise)

2009 - Conditions lifted

2010 - Will be naturalising. Buh-bye, USCIS! smile.png

it is hard to wait isn't it!!?

Trust me, it's coming!!

Let us know when you do!! :P

I don't see how these couples do it that wait a month or so after receiving their visa to do the moving. Sure, its smarter, especially with the exchange rate on money, but that flight is going to be booked AS SOON AS he receives that visa. And it'll be within a weeks time, hopefully the following day or so. lol I'm very impatient and he seems to be getting that way as well. At least on this subject.

Hardly anyone gets all those days off in the US, but a huge majority of people in the UK get the official holidays. I can count only 4 of those US holidays where I have had time off. I always had those 8 days off in the UK. Plus the holiday entitlement people in the UK get compared to the US. I'm SO glad I'm self-employed -- I could not stick the lack of holidays in a proper job here.

I took a big gamble when i booked my flights. I received the notice of my interview date and the next day went out and booked the flights for about 16 days after the interview. It seems i was lucky that it didn't take longer to get my visa. Oh and we also finalised the wedding plans for another two weeks after that. Thank the lord that I got the visa in a matter of days.
