So I know the actual GC can take up to 30 days to show up. How long did you guys take to get the welcome letter? We were approved the 29th, got notices of new card ordered and approval notice sent. 

 

Also can my husband make an infopass and get the i551 passport stamp once getting the letter, but still waiting on the card? He needs to renew his DL and in our state they have them expire when whatever their status is expires....his EAD is ending in a month. DMV won't take the letter, requires the card or stamp so they say.

The green card and welcome letter arrive together. It usually takes less than two weeks.

 

He could try an infopass if it is really urgent, but he won't necessarily get a stamp.

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.

Ah ok, I thought they come in two different mailings a few days apart 

 

Iys not urgent life life or death, but driver license and insurance renewal are literally right after each other. No DL, he could possibly be dropped from the policy and then I have to mess with fixing it, don't want this happening.

I don't think the letter always arrives with the GC. I was given an unofficial welcome letter the day of my interview and the official one was sent on the 17 and I received it either the 20th or 21st. The letter says you should receive your GC within 3 weeks but I received it on the 24th.

Edit: I double checked, and I actually received both the welcome letter and EAD on the same day (22). They were both mailed the same day (17).

Havent gotten anything yet. It showed approved and card ordered the evening of the 29. So it's been 30,31,1....skip today since it's Sunday. Hopefully Monday or Tuesday lol.

Actually, now I'm a little confused myself. Sorry ;-) I think some people refer to the information material that arrives together with the GC as the welcome letter, while others maybe refers to the approval notice as the welcome letter. I'm not sure now which is "correct". You'll only get two shipments/envelopes after GC approval though. First the approval notice, second the GC + information package.

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.

I thought the welcome letter was approval.....and the GC and its info paper separate, so that makes sense :)

Yes the welcome letter is also the approval letter, you'll find all the info at the top of the letter, just like all other NOAs. Then you'll see "welcome to the USA" and so on. When you receive the green card the envelope only contains a slip to keep your card in, a page with tracking info and your case number etc, and a small flier about being a new resident etc. 

Did you receive a letter when your EAD was approved? It's basically the same thing for the GC.

Did you receive a letter when your EAD was approved? It's basically the same thing for the GC. 

Got the welcome letter in the mail today :) says expect the GC in 3 weeks time.
