1> When the NVC receives your case, you will receive a welcome letter detailing all the fees and online process that you have to complete. Once you have paid AOS and IV fees and completed DS-260, you have to send the financial and civil documents for the petitioner and beneficiary. NVC will not send you any separate instruction to mail the documents to them.

2> For PCC, apply for appointment online just like it is done for passport application or renewel. You do not have to provide any document from NVC for PCC. Passport office has separate category of appointments for PCC applicants. If your address in the passport and present address are the same, most likely you wiil get PCC on the day of appointment. You have to carry your ID proof, address proof and passport. If the address has changed, then passport office will give you PCC only after police verification which might take 2-3 weeks. You should keep a lead time of 30-35 days for PCC. So apply for PCC asap. it is valid for one year. PCC is issued country specific. You just have to specify the country name. Passport office will not ask for any NVC document.

My husband(USC) is also sponsoring for his parents. When they went in for their PCCs, they had to go through a police verification. It took them a week to have their PCC. They had their address same as in their passports. Infact, they are in the same address for over 30 years. So @jagrutrx its better you get an appointment for your wife's PCC sooner and have the document in hand.

Our IV became available today (super quick) so that's been paid. Do we wait until it's been processed before the DS260 becomes available? I'm so ready to get this over with 😊

You need not wait, you can go ahead with filing in the DS 260.

Hi! I'm much further behind timeline-wise than everyone on this thread, but just planning/thinking ahead as our I-130 hasn't been approved yet. What I want to know is how does the NVC contact you once they receive your case from USCIS? Is it the email address listed on your I-130 under the "Petitioner's Contact Information" or the "Preparer's Contact Information"? We hired an attorney to help us, but now, after reading so much about the entire process, I feel confident that I can complete the process without paying thousands of dollars to an attorney, saving both money and time (it took them awhile just to prepare our I-130!). We've only paid the attorney for the I-130 part. And I've seen posts about removing an attorney from a case...would I have to do anything for this or is that only for when you've already assigned your attorney as an agent at the beginning of the NVC stage? Thanks in advance for any help!

You get to choose who will be the agent so you could choose yourself or your partner, whatever is easiest. Most call the NVC once they receive your case and provide both email addresses. That way the NVC will communicate with you via email.

I wouldnt imagine a reason why you couldn't cease the services of your lawyer. Just make sure you have all the current documents and prepare yourself to complete the AOS form and you should be fine. I don't know the technicalities of removing them though.

From the posts I've seen a lawyer doesn't make a difference to the timeliness of your case.  You still have to provide all the paperwork and they have no "fast forward" powers.  In fact in several cases the applicant is more tedious with checking and double checking than the lawyers, and therefore they would have been better off doing it on their own. There is a wealth of resource here on the VJ forums.  I've just gotten through to case complete at NVC with no checklists at any stage, doing it all ourselves.
The only circumstance in which I would recommend a lawyer would be if you're terrible with paperwork, or have had previous immigration issues/overstayed a visa etc.

I just received an email from the NVC scheduling my interview for May 22nd. My case was complete on April 4th and my scan date was March 30th.

Congratulations - great news! This seems to suggest that the timeframe can be considerably less than up-to 11 weeks if this case was processed in 6 days!

Thanks for the responses! So how are you notified that the petition has been sent to the NVC?

Once you receive the NOA2, it's usually fwd to NVC within 1 wk or so (according to everyone here). I received my NOA2 March 30, and case was received at NVC on Apr 1. Call NVC 1 wk after you receive the NOA2 and request for your case number. If they say your case is received but not input and that it will take about 3-6wks, just call again the next day.

I wouldn't depend on the USCIS online status as they're either sometimes behind in updating or when they are updating it's "Case Approved" followed by "Case has been sent to the Department of State" or for some, they just skip the "Case Approved" and just update as "Case has been sent to the Department of State".

Hope the above helps.

@jagrutrx, @chamma, @mcgg: The police verification completed at the time of passport issue is valid for 13 years. So, if the validity of your passport has expired and you have renewed your passport with the same address, and it has been more than 3 years with your new passport; even though the address has not changed; a new police verification will be required. I do not have the source of this info handy. I will update you when I have the source info.

Please keep this in mind while applying for PCC in India.
