Try reading through the NVC process guide https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/immigrant-process/approved.html for an overview of the process and stages.  You can also check the NVC process guide in my signature although it's geared towards my case and the London consulate (and may not list all the documents you would need to submit).

 

As you guys are all ahead of me , anyways it will help me a lot.

 

I have some questions :

 

1> I know that we can choose petitioner or beneficiary as agent. But which one would help us better.?????? makes process faster.

     (I am here in USA and my wife is in India. )  Nothing really makes the process faster, per se.  Whenever the NVC is ready, they would notify either you or your wife or both depending on the correspondence information they have for you on file.  Might be easier for you since you're already in the States, have a US bank account, etc. and their snail mail would reach you faster although snail mail is mostly pointless since you can call NVC for status updates and information.

 

2> So once I choose the agent as me (petitioner), all mail will be directed to me starting from welcome at NVC to case transferred to Consulate .

     Is it the right understanding ???? I don't know if there is any letter also coming from NVC/ consulate for medical or any check list something. please explain if I have half knowledge or I am wrong at all.  Ds 261/AOS Bill, Call NVC to review DS 261 over the phone.  At the same time give them both your email and your wife's email.  After that both of you will receive NVC email notifications.  Checklist will be included with your welcome letter after they assign a case number.

 

3> And once the case transferred to India (Mumbai Consulate), who will receive all documents in future. ????  Your wife brings the originals to the consulate. They send her the Passport with a visa stamp if approved. If you have provided both your wife and your email, they will email you.

 

4> I just started to read about sending package to NVC which says 2 way , electronic or mail.

     So how they decide it . or I can do it either way, or its really depends on which country beneficiary is from ????

 EP (Electronic Processing) is only available for select countries. I don't believe India is listed.

 

I don't have started really to read in deep yet. but I have some question superficially, but as group is more active as well as experienced, I know I will get help a lot.

We''ve seen many report CCs in 10 weeks and a couple of days.

Does anyone know if the phone reps have the ability to tell you that you've been issued a checklist before you receive the dreaded email? Or would they still just tell you that your file is under review?

 

I call once a day and hear the same thing that it's under review. I keep trying to look on the bright side and say to myself, "Well, at least we haven't gotten a checklist!" But now I'm not so sure...

Yes they do, any update goes into the system; that's how i found out about my checklist (which turned out to be an error)

Yes the earliest I've seen on here recently was a few days short of ten weeks. The only thing I'm dreading is the possibility of a checklist which shouldn't happen but we never know... they've been giving them out for things people sent! But just keep your head up!

Hi, this is the same as my USC husband (im the beneficiary - wife lol) , We are planning to send the 2013-2015 tax as well. But he filed the 2016 tax already and will be sending a copy that he filed his tax as well. If we get the transcript before sending that IV package then it would be good too.

I just got my refund last Tuesday and ordered my transcripts via snail mail day of.  Arrived yesterday so seems like it might be pretty fast.  If he is already registered on the IRS website, he can also order his transcripts online if available in which case he'd get them immediately.  Unfortunately, i wasn't registered and had to sign up. PIN gets sent via snail mail; transcripts arrived but PIN hasn't.  What an odd system.

Actually he had a problem signing up on IRS website and tried via snail mail but he kept on getting an error

I had an issue with the address. Who in their right minds requires the exact address down to the punctuation! 

 

Couldn't figure out where the period went or if i had used commas.  I finally got through after about 30 minutes after realizing the verification address was the USPS verified one and not the one on my tax form (e.g., they abbreviated "Street" to "ST" and removed some punctuation).  If he had an issue with the same thing, tell him he might be able to find the address to register  via the USPS address verification tool: https://tools.usps.com/go/ZipLookupAction!input.action?mode=1&refresh=true

He just got in and true it looks like it is the address issue and gah we have our old address in there! He has to call IRS to change he said or wait for the 2016 tax he filed via snail mail. We lived abroad by the way so goodluck with the super snail mail.

It's still totally fine to have a copy of the Federal tax return plus W2's etc if you can't get the transcript?  My wife filed her tax a couple of months ago but because it was the first time as filing as 'married' there has been a delay with her getting me the tax number (can't remember what it's called) that I need for the refund to be processed.  I'll probably have to show ID when I'm back in the US to do it so could take a few more months before that happens.  We definitely will NOT be waiting that long to send our docs to the NVC when they say the other financial evidence is sufficient (for I-865EZ)
