Not a question but just - is anyone else having a hard time?

This whole process has been so stressful and draining, our local field office is San Antonio so I am not holding my hopes up that I will be getting my greencard anytime soon (we filed mid November), I've spent every waking, breathing moment here worrying about money and just feeling very displaced, unsettled and scared that I'll be sent home packing while USCIS take their sweet time allowing our case file to gather dust.

I also am finding it hard to job hunt and haven't had any luck despite having a LOT of retail and office experience and exclusively applying for roles I feel I am probably overqualified for. Feel like my resume must be a huge turn off or something?

Bleh I hope y'all are having a nice Thursday.

Are you applying for positions while using your EAD/Combo card or the 2 year conditional green card?

Been there my friend and i still am. I found other things to occupy me besides house work lol. I take my dogs to the park meet people chit-chat, I go to the Gym and you know interact with people too, I sometimes hangout with my neighbor which is fun i got the know the people around. Honestly for the past 6 months while waiting for EAD and AOS, I feel like my wife and I are inseparable where ever she goes I go. I got my EAD last month but still no luck with jobs been turned down for being overqualified. but I have not given up yet.

anyway wish you all the best it will work out. :)

Thank you, I feel the same way we are inseparable lol I have no license or car so I couldn't do any of that yet but im starting to find new hobbies in the mean time!

Good luck!

Out of interest, how long is your CV? I worked in recruitment in the UK and would often see CV's longer than a book, but if they read well then that would be fine. Here, if it's longer than one page, it's a problem.

False - unless you have little education and/or scant employment. First, you have to realize that there is a difference between a resume and a CV. What are they asking for? If it's just a resume, probably one or two pages will suffice. Most professional organizations want a CV, which is far more detailed. I've hired dozens of employees and although I like brevity, I don't want something so brief as to be vague or irrelevant. As all resumes/CV's are digital (pdf, etc.), the length is not a big issue. Most CV's are never printed out - just shared among hiring committees and/or management. Put the most important things at the top (name, contact info, education, and most recent employment - followed by skills, volunteering/awards, etc.). If you're going for a low-responsibility or low-paying job, probably best to write a resume that highlights your basic skills, ability to show-up for work, etc. If you've had some job-hopping, better trim the resume a little. Most importantly, check the grammar, spelling, punctuation and style. In my line of work, CV's with poor grammar and/or spelling get deleted immediately. Have a good writer check your CV. Good luck.

Just to clarify, a CV is a resume in the UK. The OP is from the UK, hence me calling it a CV. There is absolutely no need to be so dismissive of my contribution, every person in the States has said to keep my resume short and it has worked for me which is why I am recommending it.

I agree on shortening it.. my Swedish CV(also it IS a resume in Sweden) was 4 pages... my Resume here is 2 pages... but it's for specialist jobs - although not academic... Had they been academic or if they were for positions where I was asked for my publications and such.. there's no way to fit that on 2 pages.. I'd be back at 4... :)

So, taking advice is great, but the whole "it HAS TO BE ONE PAGE!!... nuh.. it doesn't :)
