Maghrebin Arabe aka Dardja:

Salut - Frenchy Hello

Esalam - peace (aka hello)

çava? - frenchy way of saying informally how are you? can also reply with the same

Lebass? - same meaning...literally are you ok? And can also reply with the same

wech rak? (wech raki? for feminine) - what is up? in Kabyle

N'habek - I love you

wech bik? - what is wrong with you?

éooooooooo - say when getting someone's attention in the street...used also in Kabyle

coucou- again used to get someone's attention when talking to them directly or on the phone

wech raki diri? what you doing?

waenn kunti ? - where have you been (female form take off the i to make male)

waenn t'roh(i)? where you going?

t'habi ta'am - do you like couscous

rak(i) ta gimberi biya? you winding me up?

makesh menhar no way!! (common answered menhar ie yes way!)

Hello Dear learners!!

First is understanding Moroccan Arabic or 'Darija'

Darija or derija is the term used by speakers of Maghreb Arabic

to name the varieties they speak. Darija is characterized by many borrowings from the languages of the colonizers of the Maghreb, including French and Spanish and from the native language Berber.

Starting with the basics as usual.

Numbers :

Numbers Lesson 1

0 - Zero = Zero

1 - One = Wahed/ wa7ed

2- Two = Jouj/ Zouj

3- Three = T'lata/ Telata

4- Four = Arb3a/ Arb'a

5- Five = Khamsa

6- Six = Seta

7- Seven = Seb3a/ Seb'a

8- Eight = Teminya/ T'menya

9- Nine = Tes3ood/ Tes'oud

10- Ten = 3ashra/ 'Ashra

11- Eleven = 7dash/ Hedash

12- Twelve = Etnash/ Tenash

13- Thirteen = Teltash

14- Fourteen = Rbe3tash/ Rbe'tash

15- Fifteen = Khmestash

18- Eighteen = Tmentash

19- Nineteen = Te3tash/ Te'tash

shokoon?: who's there?

schoon: hot

birddt: cold

schwiya: little

bazaf: a lot

zit: oil

zitoon: olives

coco: peanuts

hobi al waheed: my only love

ohibouka/ohibouki: i love you

coule/couley: eat!

choukran: thanks

la choukran ala wagib: you're welcome

mmshisha: cat

zwina/zwine: beautiful/handsome but also used for "this food is zwine, that dress is zwina, etc"

hamdulilah: praise god

incha allah: god willing
