President Donald Trump on Tuesday will sign an executive order aimed at rolling back a number of Obama-era climate policies, according to a senior administration official.

The action will set in motion an overhaul of President Barack Obama's landmark rule to reduce carbon emissions from power plants and rescind a number of executive actions aimed at reining in climate change or mitigating its effects, the official said in a briefing with reporters.

Trump's order will also seek to align federal agencies' policies with his goal of boosting U.S. fossil fuel production and achieving energy independence.

The action signals that the administration is "going to go in a different direction" on climate policy, the official said.

"It's an issue that deserves attention, but I think the president has been clear he's not going to pursue climate or environmental policies that put the U.S. economy at risk," he said.

Among the most substantial actions, the White House will initiate a review of the Clean Power Plan, a set of federal guidelines that give states a framework for reducing carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel-fired electricity plants, particularly those that burn coal. That component was widely expected and telegraphed by Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt this weekend.

Coal is dead; Oil is on the ropes; Natural gas is the exit plan. Solar and wind are now cheaper than Oil.

Get some funds to retrain the coal workers, those jobs are not coming back.

We need leadership that looks forward to what needs to be done and lets go of what is dead.

Don't argue with scientists. They read Daily Kos. It's a fossil fuel if their outrage says it is.

I do agree that Coal if not dead, is very close to it. I just don't see there being many coal miners 40-50 years from now. Possibly even sooner but I'm being generous. Oil maybe up to 100 if that. Natural gas is better than both, yet seems to be protested just as much. Same with nuclear(despite the safety issues). Solar and wind have their own issues, nothing is perfect. That said, I would like to see more solar being used, not sure how I feel about wind though...we have some mills not far from us here. In Israel nearly every house has solar panels on the roof, it can be an eye sore, but you never need to use anything but the sun to heat up water in the summer.

all of this. internet scientists are the worst. so-called presidents boasting their superior intellect/genes, so smart. yet can't see the money to be made in solar and wind. solar and wind are the future, period. maybe the prez should make some swamp buddies in solar/wind?

You need to look at the big picture. Battery tech, smart grid, economies of scale.  We are not decades away from transformation because reached the tipping point.
