CSC is still backlogged barely touching some September/October cases. Vermont seems to do a little better slightly touching a few December cases. With the current trend we’ll start seeing December approvals sometime around March/April next year. If getting your citizenship is your ultimate goal, you can go ahead and file your N 400 when your window opens. Mind you though there’s a high chance your I-751 and N 400 will become 1 file and you’ll have both I-751/N400 combined interview on the day of your N 400 interview. You won’t receive your 10 year green card and will need I-551 stamp as evidence till you become a citizen. The advantage is you get rolling early enough with your citizenship application months ahead and cut the backlog at your local field office which is a common nationwide trend too. This is better than waiting months down to road to get your 10 year green card before beginning the process. I’ll be applying for my citizenship when my window opens next Monday since my local filed office in Seattle takes 9 months to process N 400 applications.

8/18/2014: Accepted in Chicago. Transferred to Nebraska Service Center.

8/21/2014: Received NOA 1. I-130, I-485, I-765 in mail.

9/24/2014: EAD approved. 36 Days!

12/26/2017: Biometrics.

01/23/2019: Interview Scheduled for 2/27/2019.

02/27/2019: Joint I-751/N-400 interview. N-400 recommended for approval.

05/16/2019: N-400 APPROVED! Placed in line for oath ceremony.

05/17/2019: Oath ceremony notice mailed.

@Starkilla09    1st thing : Can I apply for N400 without knowing my application status.

2nd thing : I am Vermont filer .... so as u mentioned they are opening december file .... so how long it takes to get to know whether its approved or no (months ?).

3rd thing : Do I need to send all the documents again which I forwarded before during I-751 application.

  1. Yes, you can file N-400 when you are eligible - it might further delay (or even override) your I-751 and keep them from ever sending you a 10 yr green card... some people seem to be having combo interviews for both, and then jumping straight to Citizenship
  2. USCIS is not transparent in its practices... there is no real way to know when you will get an approval. Our lists here on VJ can tell you when other people who filed at similar times are getting approved, but it's no guarantee that you didn't get the "slow worker" or that something else is holding up the process for your application.
  3. When you file N-400 you have to send in some but not all of the same documentation, and you have to send some things that you didn't have to send before. You can also opt to send the required pieces of information (Copy of green card/I-551 stamp and your marriage certificate) and opt to bring everything else (tax transcripts for 3 yrs, evidence of name change (if applicable), US spouse's proof of citizenship, financial info (like for ROC), records of arrests/convictions (if applicable)) to the interview. Either way, the short answer is yes, you will need the same kind of proof for N-400 (but, of course, with the 3rd year's info added to it) but you don't need to send it all in ahead of time. You can bring it with you to your interview.

No change, still says fee's waived... looks like we'll be a few more months yet with the rate CSC is going

@nightingalejules and @natonstan ... thanks for your reply..... Just to inform u all ... I did went to USCIS  to get my passport stamped as my one year extension was about to expire... they stamped one year extension but they all took away my expired green card. Do they usually keep the expired green card ?
