Wrong place of birth on passport

I recently applied for and received my US passport. Unfortunately the place of birth says California instead of United kingdom.

They didn't need my birth certificate just my Naturalization Cert. Which clearly states country of former nationality as United Kingdom.

Will this be an issue if I used this passport to travel?

I have contacted the department of state and they tell me now they need a copy of my birth certificate, the passport and a statement explaining the correction needed. Why do they now need my birth certificate if they didn't need it in the first place to issue the passport.

Just do as they say and send send a copy of your birth certificate together with all required documentation. It shouldn't take long for them to issue you a new passport considering passports take less than a month to be issued. You can't be denied entry as a citizen even with the mistake on it. You just want to have it corrected though.

They need the birth certificate to show where you were born, so they can correct your passport
Maybe it is just a standard requirement for them to ask for.
You should send a copy of the birth certificate AND a copy of your naturalization certificate to avoid confusion

Just means I have to deal with Federal Gov, one more time.... The fun.
