90 days waiting for EAD card, no work.....

Newby here...

I just wanted to figure this out, so I enter the US on the K1 visa, we get married immediately, file the paperwork and apply for the EAD card.  Am I allowed to work for those 3 months of waiting or must I just sit at home and earn no money...? That does not make sense!!!

Thanks

You wait.

That's correct.

You are not allowed to work without the EAD

You cannot work until you have your EAD processed and in-hand. That typically involves the time you enter the US until the marriage and apply + 3 months. Sometimes it can take even longer, but it's good to be prepared for a long period of not working and save up. Instead, you can fill up your free time with volunteering - not from a company you ever intend to work at or a position in which they could pay someone to do.

You need your EAD if you want to work. If you get a job offer you can try to get the EAD expedited.

Okay, So I can at least start to look for a job and then if I have an offer there is a way to get it expedited.... That sound like some hope at the end of the tunnel.

Great, Thanks

I try to stay busy in my life now and work full time at a daycare, part time at a pharmacy and then I babysit as well.  Honestly, I'm slightly looking forward to having a few months off work (although I'll probably start going crazy after a few weeks lol).

Yes, I should have been more clear, this is in my home country that I am still working and trying to keep busy/save while I wait for the K-1 to process.  I meant the time off I Will have in the US until I get my EAD might do me some good.

You have to wait. No point applying for jobs since employers require you to be authorized to work in the US, which you are not.

If working when entering the US was important to you then you should have done the spousal visa.

Very good point. Even with the EAD it was hard, as potential employers had no way to know for sure I would be getting a GC. As soon as I could check the "resident" box, I started getting appointments for interviews.

I don't see why you're surprised you have to wait though. Haven't you read about the visa, the process it is to adjust status, etc?

Are you blind?
