Forgive me if this has been asked elsewhere but, I know that I am supposed to bring the original marriage certificate (civil document) to the interview (London) but the 2 copies that we paid for (I have retained the receipt showing 2 copies paid for) both are stamped in black 'BROWARD COUNTY FLORIDA: I hereby certify this document to be a true and correct copy of the original, WITNESS MY HAND AND SEAL'.  Both copies have the date (in black) and red stamp (Circuit & County Courts, Broward County, Florida) and have signatures (you can tell the signatures have been written out twice as they are by the same person but look slightly different).

My question is, is this OK?  I mean it's all we were given by the courthouse when we paid beforehand for the licences (at the time of applying for a marriage licence).

I hope I haven't confused you all, I may well be confusing myself!

Any responses will be appreciated.

Can I just add that the 2 licences were mailed to my wife's home in Florida shortly after our wedding.  Our wedding took place in Florida too.

Yes. Those were CERTIFIED by an employee of Broward County Florida, hence a "certified copy" of the record on file at the courthouse or clerks office where records are housed for that county.

Had they not been endorsed that way with the signature and stamp, then it would merely be a "copy".

Gotcha! I mean I kinda knew that but wasn't sure if it had to be the actual ink version with my mother and pastor's real-life signatures on. The stamps are at least real ink and not copied. Thanks for the reply.

Another question, on the certified copy should the red stamp be raised?  Mine is just an ordinary flat stamp.

There's lots of counties in the USA and each decides how they want to create their endorsement---red, black, purple, embossed, big gold sticker embossed, drippy wax with an imprint. All are fine. I have a posh county with an embosser.

(I am just kidding about the wax )

You may well laugh.  Here in England I wouldn't be surprised if they used wax seal stamps and write the court name and date with a feather quill!

Hi Matt! Maybe you can help me with a question (being a Floridian). When you received your "certified" copy of marriage cert in FL, did yours have a state file number up at the top? I am trying to figure out if the one I pulled from the (Monroe) county records site will suffice for USCIS. Do you have a pic perhaps with personal information blurred? Any help appreciated! Thank you!

You've got good answers already but for you and any reader, don't confuse a license to marry with a marriage certificate.  Even though, in some States, they are on the same page, they are not the same thing.  Sounds like you have exactly what you need.

My signature doesn't look the same all the time either.  I'm just not as careful about that as I used to be. ^_^

Hey I can't take a pic right now but don't worry my file number is blank too. However there is an Application Number which is filled in over on the left. Hope that helps.

Thanks Matt! I think we have the correct copy now. I was trying to expedite the process by sending the regular copy but we got the certified copy so I'm glad we waited. Thanks for your help!
