I don't know with Kentucky. But we didn't need SSN to get married in Ohio. We had courthouse wedding 10 days after I arrived. All they need was my birth certificate and passport.

I applied SSN two days after my EAD came in the mail. And got the card exactly a week after I applied. Good luck for all the process!

Hello:

Social Security card or number is not necessary to get married in Kentucky. All I took is my passport and my wife took her ID 7 years ago and we got a license.

I wish you the best luck in your process and congrats for your wedding.

What a great news seriously and such a good thing to have a concrete example , I hope it will be all right , I should have applied since day one though :(

i will just bring my national ID card or driver licence or whatever and it will be all good I hope :)

Do not apply for a new SSN, if not received call the SS office and see whats going on with your social security.

We are planning to go to the social security office this week , do you think if we ask about our case they can tell us ?

i'm not going to re apply then, this SSN is a true battle !!

When you go into a level 3 SAVE verification it takes some time since physical papers are sent to USCIS to confirm... it took about 8 weeks for me. It won't help to apply again and there is no way for you to contact the uscis office. Only the agency applying for you can do that. This was the biggest patience requiring process for me cause there is no way to get real feedback. You should get it soon but there is a risk that you won't be verified in time for the 2 week cut-off prior to i-94 expiration. In which case you'll have to re-apply once you get your EAD. This is another reason to apply asap when you get to the US. Every day/week counts.

You can still get married and all that though... which is the most important thing after all :)

Keeping my fingers crossed it comes in time before the expiration for you :)

Thank you so much all for the details and explanation about this process about the SSN,  I feel reassured about the fact that I will have another chance to apply once I get my EAD , however when you come to the SSA with the EAD , do we have to file the forms and bring also the same documents mentioned in the guide of VisaJourney then ? I'm afraid they will still be asking for that expired I94 because of a lack of knowledge about it .

thank you so much anyway I hope it will be all good , I don't want to have more hassles with this and move on :)

That's a good question. Honestly I have no idea if they can tell you anything about the card or SSN, you can try and let us know lol. At least we can learn something new together.

You can go and ask them but most likely they will just say that it isn't verified yet (if it isn't) or that it is, in which case yo'll have the card soon anyhow. There is an option of asking them to call the toll free number they have for SAVE, when a verifications has taken an unusual amount of time. However, since the letter they give you says it can take 20 business days, I doubt there will be much point in asking before this time has passed.

Even if they ask you for your expired i-94, it will not matter, but I doubt that they will. In SAVE they have the option to check which out of a series of immigration documents the applicant is presenting to them. You will be presenting your EAD. Sometimes they still ask for the i-94 simply to send it along so that the person on the other side, doing the verification, has all the available documents/pieces to the puzzle to make a verification of you. The i-94 might for example have a maiden name and the EAD a married name. It will just help the USCIS to locate all and any file information on you.
