Hello all :D

i had some little questions about getting a simple social security number. I'm still waiting for my SSN ( applied 6 weeks ago ) and the wedding is coming really soon ( mid April)  , I have one month left before my I94 expire ( around the end of April )

My questions are :

can I apply for a mariage certificate without a SSN in Kentucky ? When should I apply ?

When we are done with Submiting AOS paperwork, and once I receive my EAD, what other forms should I bring to the SSA in order to re apply for a SSN ?

Also , I must do the registry for the draft but do I really need a SSN ?

Im so stuck right now and today we been to the uscis office and he told us that I can't apply for a SSN until I'm a permanent resident :0

Thank you in advance , this process is worrying me a lot ; with my fiancée it's been a rough day

Hello

I dont know if ssn is required for marriage certificate in Kentucky or not but in virginia it was not required (which we didnt know at first but we went to the courthouse and applied for the marriage certificate .they asked me about my ssn but my husband said i m from different country and i dont have it. and she said it is ok. and  asked where we r going to be married  . and she said if the wedding is going to be somewhere else then we have to wait 4 days since they would send us our marriage certificate in the mail .and we said ll marry in the courthouse and she gave us the phone no. of judge to make appointment for the marriage which we did i think after 4 days or so.

First thing we did was our court marriage within 13 days of my entrance to the US. and we went to social security office to apply  for my ssn but that officer didnt know anything abt k1 and k2 visa (we gave him marriage certificate, i-94 . only glance at i-94 .even didnt look at the marriage certificate) and said we should call homeland security for it. nothing he can do. so my husband only updated that he is married in his ssn and we retruned back very frausted.

we called the homeland security the same day but they was giving information only filing AOS etc.

one friend from visa journey gave me advice to go another social security office and see coz some officer dont know much abt k1 and k2. so few days later we went to another social security office and he looked up online information abt it and it was easy he accepted the application. i showed him our marriage certificate and passport. couldnt able to get ssn for myk2 son since he needs to have his EAD first which i m not worried abt it much now. he said they ll send my social security card in mail within 14 days or so. but it came in mail in 2 days, think that office was not busy.

what i advice you is to go to courthouse and try to apply for marriage license first. may be ssn in kentucky also not required. after getting marriage license u can have wedding CEROMONY anytime and  if ssn is required  then u can trygoing to the another social security office. most important is you need to be married with 90 days of entrance to the USA.

HOPE this helps. wish you luck :)

Thank you so much for sharing your experience :) it is great reading about each of us and see a different journey :)

I see you also had to deal with people who didn't know nothing about the process ...

I should also try another SSA office but it is really rural around here and not much big cities.

im so afraid to wait until there is two weeks before my wedding and then they tell us that I'm obliged to have a SSN for my marriage certificate :(

all this paperwork is a nightmare and ruin the happiness of getting married :(

thank you so much for the advices I will need a lot of luck for this

I haven't been there , It could be a relieve somehow if it was a no but I'm afraid that we absolutely have to .. :( I might have to check . How about re applying one more time for a SSN ? The SAve database is frozen since we have been to SSA to re apply , it's been over a month now :(

"Social Security number shall be requested as a means of identification of each party but shall not be recorded on the marriage license or certificate. Other means of identification may also be requested if a party does not have a Social Security number "

Here is a little precision, at least I don't necessarily one for the certificate :) The good news of the day !!!

Hello:

Social Security card or number is not necessary to get married in Kentucky. All I took is my passport and my wife took her ID 7 years ago and we got a license.

I wish you the best luck in your process and congrats for your wedding.

When you go into a level 3 SAVE verification it takes some time since physical papers are sent to USCIS to confirm... it took about 8 weeks for me. It won't help to apply again and there is no way for you to contact the uscis office. Only the agency applying for you can do that. This was the biggest patience requiring process for me cause there is no way to get real feedback. You should get it soon but there is a risk that you won't be verified in time for the 2 week cut-off prior to i-94 expiration. In which case you'll have to re-apply once you get your EAD. This is another reason to apply asap when you get to the US. Every day/week counts.

You can still get married and all that though... which is the most important thing after all :)

Keeping my fingers crossed it comes in time before the expiration for you :)
