It's all positioning now. I honestly wouldn't even trust Republicans not to craft a bill that, like Obamacare, gives this idiotic mandate to the insurance industry and fails to address prices whatsoever.

And to other posters suggesting this is Trump.. use your head, people. Trump never really formulated any specific plan about the "replace" part, he just wanted rid of Obamacare. This recent replacement conjured by Ryan and co. (i.e. insurance industry) is effectively Obamacare under a different name. Trump was just jumping on anything Republicans can pass that includes a repeal. Not praise worthy at all, but not really indicative of a Trump fail either. To me this symbolizes, though, the difficulty of both parties, their establishment, and how in the pockets of private interests they are. I'd like to see Ryan and McConnell tossed aside for someone who has the agenda in mind that got Republicans the mandate they have. I'm not a Republican by any means, I'd just like to see the cronyism of both parties given a kick in the ### for once in recent memory, besides the 2016 election.

Rubio was also an establishment cuck. Voters saw right through his act. Right or not, the GOP electorate wanted Obamacare dumped.. replacement or otherwise.

Obviously Republicans in Congress would find themselves with a lot more support if they'd at least get that "repeal" part down asap. Of course, this "replacement" facade reeks of cronyism, like waiting for a handout from the insurance industry before writing their bill.

I didn't vote for Trump in 2016 (voted Gary Johnson) but if he can actually pull off getting rid of Obamacare, along with fulfilling a few more promises (such as getting rid of DACA), he could get my 2020 vote. More of this, though, and I'll be looking third party yet again.

What I think people should also be focusing on is that Republicans have already passed a bill to dump Obamacare.. it was vetoed by Obama.

Restoring Americans’ Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act of 2015

Why not just do this again?

I predict by June of this year, we will not find one CEHEST regular who will remember voting for  Trump

Okay then

Too late he's not the President anymore. Thank the Lord.

Actually, I think if you changed absolutely nothing in the ACA and just renamed it the Dems would still vote against it calling it the worst thought out piece of legislation that was ever pushed onto the American people. And then blame it on Trump because it came under his watch.

Quote

Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD8) said in a press release, "For the 61st time . . . our Republican colleagues are moving forward on legislation to dismantle the Affordable Care Act. . . . Why in the world are we here on the floor of the House of Representatives passing legislation that’s going to take away affordable health care to 15 million Americans, including three million children?"

All but one Democrat voted against in the two House votes. That was Rep. Collin Peterson (D-MN7), the most conservative Democrat in the House according to our ideology analysis.

The White House had said the President would veto the bill: “Repealing the health care law would have implications far beyond these Americans who have or will gain insurance . . . More than 150 million Americans with employer-based insurance would be at risk of higher premiums and lower wages, or losing their coverage altogether. It would raise taxes on certain middle-class families.”

17 days. no real work or effort went into this legislation. from ryan or trump, anyone. or are we seriously that screwed as a country that at this point it only matters how many pages the legislation is and if it's named after the right person?

I know you are very secular, but try to see the blessing.

If Team Trump only had half of their stuff together they might have achieved 1/16 of what Trump promised.  As it is now Obamacare, however flawed, is the defacto healthcare plan.  Thankfully they are so incompetent they don't know the importance of counting votes.

The ACA was a bad to fair piece of legislation.  It could have been better.  I could have been improved incrementally to fix the problems.  We should be fixing it right now.

So why are the Republicans not able to put a law on the floor?

Ryan went through all the trouble of holding up a copy of the AHCA draft and saying some words. Give the man some credit.. that's almost as much effort as I put into this post.
