We tried that one with my husbands insurance at work.  Even after showing proof of the policy the lady refused to 'on principle'

I fail to see with subsidies and tax breaks how this isn't anything other than Obamacare-lite. 

 

Obamacare sucked, it didn't address prices whatsoever, it was a mandate to the insurance industry.. this looks like only a slightly different mandate. As with every insurance mandate, when have the costs gone down? They don't, that's the premise of having the government force it in the first place. This is corporatism. 

 

The insurance industry is a joke. Either gut the insurance industry and go back to people negotiating directly with the people providing them healthcare (cutting out the middleman will save substantial amounts of money), or adopt a single payer system where costs can at least be quantified and adjusted.

So yes I'd agree what the GOP came up with was a laughable joke that they should be ashamed of. I don't think that O'care is the answer either (even though there are some aspects most people do like about it even if there are consequences to the things they like). But you know very well before O'care there were problems too. How exactly do we solve that? They've all had years...

Hence why I think people should be allowed to "customize" their own health plan, which will lower costs. At the same time, I do think they should be required to offer one plan that does cover all the essential benefits, if people wish to buy that plan.

Well of course premiums might go down for some people, but they might also go up for others. The entire premiss of health insurance, is that the more people pay in, the lower the premiums become, but if you begin al la carte health insurance, you end harming the people who need health care the most.

So what you are basically saying is that not only are premiums lower now than they were before the ACA, the main reason for that is because they are forced to cover "essential benefits" for everybody, including those who don't need these benefits. Makes sense to me.
