Hello, I am a US citizen who is looking to have her boyfriend join her for about two months in the states while we wait for our September term to start.

He is from Spain and was rejected an ESTA, so we need to go the B2 visa route.

I have been living out of America for about a year with a few months inbetween of me being in the states, and currently I am accepted into a program to start teaching English in Madrid in the fall.

He spent this past year working in England and in the fall intends to finish his masters to become a full architect.

We have been researching throughly about everything and are a bit worried about him not having enough proof that he intends to return back to Spain, I just wanted to see if there are any documents you recommend we bring to his interview Monday that could help our chances.

He is bringing my acceptance letter into the program for Madrid, showing that I wouldn't be in the states anyways.

He is also bringing a letter of enrollment into his university for his masters, in Spanish and translated into English.

He had plenty of funds for the trip.

We don't have property in Madrid yet and we've been in the U.K. for a year, but are the letters enough to prove he does not have intent to remain? Are there any other documents you reccomend? We are very nervous and don't want the visa to be rejected since it has already cost us quite a bit. Thank you.

You must state why his ESTA was rejected. Don't want to upset you with he needs to prove he will come back with job, school and ties to Europe, your school letter is irrelevant.

Hello! Thank so for answering. They won't tell us why it was rejected, it was approved and then they said travel not authorized a few days later.

Assuming he had no previous overstays or criminal issues, and didn't answer "yes" to any of the "did you ever attempt to overthrow the government" type questions on the form, he may have a name match wqith a suspected terrorist.  If so, there will be extra security checks which will delay the visa, but he should be ok getting the visa eventually,

The biggy is why he was refused ESTA, without knowing that anything else is pointless.

Think back to what could've caused an approved esta to be denied.

Thanks for all the replys. Honestly I've called DHS TRIP, the esta office, and emailed, and they all said they can't give an answer. the closest thing we got to an answer was saying it was denied a few days after approval because it was constantly getting updated from the law databases, but he does not have a criminal background at all, not even a speeding ticket. As he is Spanish he has a pretty precise name, but maybe it is possible someone else has commuted a crime that has the same name. Honestly the ESTA getting denied was so strange because he hasnt even been out of Western Europe before, and hasn't engaged in an strange activities of any sort.

All that can be done is to apply for the b2 and provide as much evidence of the return back.
