Three months seems awful long. My fiance has a friend helping us that has good connections. He told me we should have it in a week. I plan to go there for 3 weeks in August, get married and make sure I put my whole package together including marriage certificate and come back home and file.

Sorry to burst your bubble but I highly doubt you will get yours in a week. Maybe if your connections are in the level of senator or secretary? Maybe. But if you do get your official PSA marriage certificate in a week's time, then please do correct me because I would be very very interested to know!

Well that's the thing. Everyone here is talking about how it's fast if you know someone but that doesn't help me because I don't know "someone". She lives in Quezon City, but possibly get married by a private minister in Makati

Yeah, I wasn't trying to give you false hope. But at the same time I was hoping to let you know that not everyone says 3-6 months. I am not sure how many times you have traveled to the Philippines or how familiar you are with the different regions and how their government works, but being in some provinces I could see how it could easily take up to 6 months or even longer. However being that your fiancé is in Makati I think it will be less than three months. Knowing the process is best for you. Talking to the LCR and doing you best in whatever way possible to expedite getting the registration to the NSO is most important. I didn't mean to imply that everyone would be able to get one in a week. Again I wish you the best of luck.

I found out once I marry my Filipina fiance in the Philippines, it will then take 3 months (according to the private officiant performing civil wedding) to receive the official certificate from the NSO. I was advised for immigration purposes, the faster municipal certificate is not enough and must have the national one. So, when I marry her, and then come home my intent would be to immediately file for the CR1 but would I have to wait the 3 months until I have the certificate first? I really hope not! Also she plans on taking my last name. For practicality, legal, and time considerations would it be better for her to change her name to mine in the Philippines before I file in which case she would have to get all new documents and passport first with her new name before I can file? Or should we just wait until she is here in the states to do that? Thanks!

We got married in the Philippines too and we were able to request an expedite for extra 2500 PHP and received our marriage certificate in less than a month. With regard to her name, the question is, will she follow the Philippine way or the American way? We were able to start the petition with my married name after getting the marriage certificate. My passport and other government ids were updated later. Then you can decide whether she change it here or in the Philippines.

In addition to the above information, if she waits till she gets here, then she will have to go to SSA to update her name, her Philippine passport as well as her GC to her married name (your last name).

Also, you can submit a copy of the LCR for your initial evidence. The NSO copy can come after. The interview won't be in three months so you will have time for the NSO copy to come.

Oh wow. Can I ask exactly who you asked and what you asked for to get that expedited. I have no problem paying whatever it takes to speed it up. Only thing is, we are getting the license in her city of Quezon City, but we are using a private officiant in Makati, who will be the one to submit the completed marriage paper, I assume in Makati. As far as her name, can you please tell me what you mean by the American way vs The Filipino way? I mean here her intent is to get rid of her last name and take mine. At the same time we want her "changed" name to be recognized in the Philippines as well obviously for the purpose of convenience for future travel back and forth and perhaps if I someday seek residency status there.

Well, when we got married it was in the municipal office in my town so I don't know exactly who you can request the expedite from. But we talked to the people in the municipal office to request for expedite and they were able to point me to the person who actually processed it who is also a government employee. I would have her ask the people in Quezon City first since they would have the record.

When we requested for expedite. we requested 3 copies if I remember correctly.

Philippine way name - Ex. Maiden name is Anna(first name) Santos(middle name - mother's maiden name), Cruz (last name - father's last name)

When women gets married, our name will change to Anna(first name) Cruz(middle name) Smith (husband's last name). We drop the mother's maiden name and keep the father's last name as the middle name.

American way is, you keep your first name and middle name as is and just change the last name to the husband's name(if she decides to use the husband's last name).
