We were looking into ticket prices to purchase after fiancé gets his visa. A one way ticket is over $3000 and a round trip is around $900. Is it ok to purchase a round trip ticket even though fiancé will not use the return portion of the ticket?

Yes it fine to purchase a return ticket. just remember to cancel the return leg portion with the airline after entry before return date.

Once your fiancé gets to the U.S., it's a good idea to call the airline and cancel the return portion of the ticket. It's rare, but I've read several cases here on VJ where the airline somehow left the person's name on the manifesto for the return flight even though said person never checked in or took the flight. It can lead to immigration complications if your fiancé-becoming-spouse is reported to USCIS as having left the country on that flight.

Just remember to cancel the return filght after the entry and before the return day.

Yes, and I think your best bet is to purchase a round trip ticket. There are some countries (like Chile) and airlines that will not allow you on the plane unless you have a return ticket.
