The requirements of a fiance visa is that you have met at least once in the last two years, both of y'all are single, he makes the required amount, you have to be able to get a NSO bc and a Cenomar. Also feel free read the guides and come by the Philippines subgroup of you want.

My american boyfriend will arrive here in the philippines next month and we are going to meet in person for the first time after talking online for two years. My question is do we need to go to the U.S embassy in Manila?

While he's visiting? No. Take a moment to read through the K-1 process as described on the forum. You may find it helpful to get a list of paperwork that you're going to need for each step of the process and make sure that he has what he needs from you to submit the petition (the first part of the process) and that you will need from him for the visa application (the second part, once the petition is approved). Also take time to read through your regional thread for embassy specific requirements.

Not true for the first point.  A formal engagement is not required

But the intention to get married within 90 after the foreign fiancé immigrates to the US. If that doesn't happen he or she needs to go back to their home country.

Click on guides on top of the page and then look for the one that says K1.

Hello Yellow Butterfly,

I've read your questions and seen several members refer you to the guides for advice.  Certainly reading and understanding the K-1 Guide and the steps needed to go thru once you start the process can be helpful.   However, 90% of what has to be done for you to obtain a K-1 Visa must be done by your future husband.  If he doesn't understand it, if he isn't researching the steps necessary, if he expects you to do all the research then you should question if he really wants to get married.   He will need to have sufficient means to support you, a place for you to live and be ready to spend significant time and money to make it possible for you to immigrate to the USA.   If he already isn't doing the basic research, if he isn't telling you about the process, then you have to ask yourself who it is that is committed to this.   You have never met in person and while you've been talking for 2 years he may wonder who you really are and be a bit hesitant to commit to you when he's never met you.   Ok, enough with the 'warnings'..   From your perspective when he comes you can help avoid some faxing/express mailing of documents etc if you....

-

A: Sign a letter of intent to marry before he leaves the Philippines so that he can bring it with him.

B: Make sure that you can get a CENOMAR and that you can get a clean birth certificate from PSA.  (formally NSO).  You can give him a B/C copy to take back with him.

C: Make sure that if you are under 25 that your parents meet him so that eventually if the CFO (Commision for Filippinos Overseas) asks for it you can get your parents 'Consent' or Guidance depending on age.   (the don't seem to ask much anymore but they can)

D: Take pictures together at identifiable places, save movie tickets or show tickets or whatever to go with the picture of the two of you doing it. (those should go back with him)

E: start putting together a time-line (outline) of your relationship so that when the time comes you can provide relevant evidence of bonafide relationship with supporting documentation (in your case probably mostly relevant chat logs)..   Things like when you met first... What if any money was exchanged and for what, how he met your parents / relatives online, significant milestone things like when he first said he loved you and you him.   What you plan to do when he's in the Philippines.    Make sure that he SAVES his boarding pass for his Philippine flight.

F: Find someone who might be skeptical of rather your relationship is real or not.  Listen to what they say causes them doubts.. Those are red flags for your interview.. make sure that you and he understand what those flags are and how they are to be addressed.   For example, one red flag is that he doesn't have a job.... perhaps a second is that it's taken 2 years before he decided to come meet you in person...  Is there an age difference?  Etc.  Most red flags will not stop you but if you aren't prepared to confidently address then the result can be a denial

G:  Make sure that he is invested in the process... Make sure that it's what he wants and is ready to undertake it.  If he isn't the result could be extreme heartbreak for you.

-

Personally I would also advise that you not exclusively take a vacation together when he arrives in the Philippines.  The difference in culture between the Philippines and the USA is huge.  Let him see how life really is in the Philippines,   how your life really is... He'll need that perspective to understand the eventual cultural differences when you are married and living in the USA.

Best of luck to you, I'm sure we all would welcome questions from your future husband on here if he has such questions.  And if you read the guides and have questions we can help there too.
