Hello everyone, we hope that everyone doing great. As me and my wife prepare to send out AOS package I wasn't sure if it is ok to file AOS without EAD? I know that without EAD I cannot go work but I will wait until I have my greencard, so does anyone know if it ok to not apply for EAD? how much is the fee of I-485 without EAD?

Yes you can file the I-485 alone without the EAD and AP. However, the fee will still be $1140 + $85 (biometrics). Might as well just get the EAD since it's free when file concurrently with the I-485 :)

ROC filed on December 1, 2020, assigned to SRC, approved within 106 days on February 18, 2021.

I would file for the EAD anyway as it's included as part of your K1 journey to AOS. If you don't you will only have to pay for it if you change your mind before approval. May as well do it now in my opinion.

I will not look back on this journey with fond memories, but I will look back knowing that every step was worth it, whatever the outcome.

Agree with previous posters. There is no reason not to include the i-765, and i-131  too for that matter, since they are both free with the i-485.

Yep, if it is free, I think that would be better. I have read somewhere on here say that the fee for AOS + EAD [ Biometrics ] is $1070, now I'm confused :( Can someone explain exactly how much? Will they return if I pay over?

The fees went up on December 23rd... 1070 was the old fee... that was including biometrics. (Form,$985+bio,$85)

The new fee is $1040 +$85.

If the fee is incorrect your applications will be rejected at the lockbox facility and returned to you.

@GraceandTiffany Here's the USCIS updated fee schedule as of 5 January 2017 https://www.uscis.gov/forms/our-fees. Regardless of what we read on here, always check USCIS or the relevant authority's website to make sure that we use the most updated forms, pay the current filing fees etc :) 

For my I-129F, K-1, AOS, EAD, AP and ROC detailed timelines, please refer to my timeline page :)

Like others said, it's free so it doesn't hurt to apply. Also, you don't know how long the process will take. If you change your mind and want to work during the wait, then you'll have your work permit already instead of having to wait for a couple of months since that point.

No need to pay as long as the I-485 is still pending, all you need to do is include a copy of the NOA1 from your I-485 and the fee will be waived.

03-19-2021: Officially an American Citizen 🇺🇸 Entire journey from initial K-1 Visa filing to Naturalization took 5 years, 8 days.

Do you have an idea of where it states that filing these together means no fee for the EAD? I've been searching for awhile...
