Hi All,

I need some assistance with respect to taxes.

I came to the US on the K1 Visa and currently in the Adjustment of Status pending status (filed beginning of Feb 2017. I married my wife who is a US citizen. I am currently not working and she is working and supporting me. I have a property in South Africa which i am earning rental income  and I have South African investment trading account. I have to and will submit a South African tax return for 2017 (Provisional Tax return cause i'm not a salary earner) and I am earning "South African income" based on assets in South Africa.

I have a few questions below:

  1. What tax withholding should my wife have?
  2. Should my wife have a Joint withholding Status or Married with single withholding Status for 2017?
  3. And if file separately which will be declared in 2018 do I have to declare my SA proceeds earned even though i will be paying tax in SA for this?

Regards

Dipesh
