College Credit Transfer Course Descriptions

So my wife is trying to transfer her masters degree credits from Moscow state aviation institute to a college in Washington State. We went through FIS-WEB.com for the English translation and Course-by-Course evaluation. Everything seems OK for far, but the college she plans to attend in Washington wants course descriptions from Moscow state aviation institute. However MAI never issued detailed course descriptions. We went on MAI's site but nothing of value.

 

Has anyone been successful from MAI (or other Russian Universities) to transfer credits to USA? or am I missing something? Thoughts?

I assume you need to contact the institute in Moscow and ask them for the detailed course descriptions. The college in Washington probably can't determine what was covered under the courses that she had in the Moscow institute. The courses could have different names in different countries or curriculum of the courses with the same name could differ.

We did send an email to them. They basically replied with "Not something they can provide."

does her transcript have academic hours for each course? Every university should have a course description or manuals what each subject consists of, something like a plan. You probably need to contact the right person. Did you write in Russian?

Yes. Her transcript has academic hours and grade received for each class. My wife wrote the email in Russian requesting course descriptions.

That's a huge bummer. I see you're in Vancouver, WA....I know you might be set on that one uni in WA, but have you considered other options in the Portland area? Surely there must be some college willing to overlook this red tape catch-22. At least, I really really hope this isn't going to be required by all colleges in the Portland area, since we'll be in the same boat.. D:

 

Maybe your wife could just literally write the descriptions herself and then have MAI sign and stamp it? Just explain to them and say things are different in the US and we just need some basic course descriptions?

she probably bumped into someone incompetent who just didn't bother to lift the butt and find out. I would try to call. I looked at the website and they have different departments and numbers to call. Make her call until someone can provide what she needs or tell her where to get it. Certainly, they have a particular academic program to follow and it should be listed somewhere.
