Hello everyone,

I'm planning to fly with my cat, in cargo hold, from Morocco to the USA.

But I read that during the months of May through September, the airline may not allow you to transport your pet in the cargo department. The reason for this restriction is that the heat on the tarmac can heat up the cargo hold quickly. Additionally, many airlines do not have air-conditioned holding areas for pets. The risk to the pet is when it is on the ground, not when the aircraft is in the air. I'll be flying with the Spanish airline "Iberia" and probably also with a connection flight operated by American Airlines.

So my question is are my assumptions right about Summer flights? I'd really appreciate any piece of advice or information you can give me, especially those of you who have already flown with their pets (cats in particular) during Summer or who have been in a situation similar to mine.

Thanks in advance :)

How big is that cat? :-O

I'm going home to bring my dog over and I'm taking her as my carry on bag.

She's not as large as a dog but due to her weight, she might be a bit too heavy for the cabin. And when she stands, she's a bit too high to fit under the seat (inside her carrier of course). There is a slight possibility I can fly her in the cabin, but I'm also considering a worst case scenario just in case, to avoid bad surprises.

I'm sure some airlines will take her in the cargo if you just shop around and check their polity with animals.

We are going with Delta

I'm still gonna try contacting both Iberia and AA and see what they say, but I thought I'd also ask here and learn from other people's experiences :)

From the UK you can not take animals as carry on. YMMV

The temperature issue is on the tarmac, not in the plane.

Yet again the UK has plenty of companies that organise pet transport, may well be specialists who can help you, otherwise check with you AirLine for cost and issues.

I found a few pet transportation services online but not sure if they ship from Morocco. Will have to contact them later. Thanks :)

Well, seems like I'm the only Moroccan here who's crazy enough to fly a cat across the Atlantic ocean and also across the United States...

Pets are important! I would never leave my cat behind either. Wherever I go, she goes. :)

Were you able to find any airlines/pet transportation services?

I do just that. I take with me everywhere I go ^_^

A normal flight would be okay. But since there will be a stop, I'm gonna need to buy her a second carrier (a non-rigid one) for the in-cabin flight, then put her in her normal carrier for the second long flight (in the cargo hold this time).

Hello!

What´s the weight of your cat?

We are flying with our 8 kg cat from China to the USA next week, 3 flights. Planning to bring him (our cat) to the cabin with us, ufortunately except of the first flight - its not allowed to bring a cat in the cabin in China.

My cat weighs a bit less than 6Kg. The total weight with the carrier is a bit below 8Kg, so I think I'm good :)

China to USA with 3 flights sounds like a long trip! How are you planning to feed/give water to your cat? And what about the potty needs?
