Hello everyone I made this post to see your shared experiences/advices about traveling internationally with the EXPIRED 2 YEARS CONDITIONAL GC AND ORIGINAL FORM I-797 NOA 1 YEAR EXTENSIONS.

Brasil also requires to apply for a BOARDING FOIL to be able to travel from Brasil to USA if you are under those conditions...

Has anyone traveled from US TO BRASIL AND THEN FROM BRASIL TO US with expired 2 year GC + EXTENSION LETTER + BOARDING FOIL?

WAS IT SMOOTH SAIL?

DID YOU APPLY FOR BOARDING FOIL WHILE IN US OR IN BRASIL ONLY?

IS IT RECOMMENDED TO ALSO GET THE I551 STAMP ON MY PASSPORT?

Thank you!

Here is what US CONSULATE IN BRASIL TOLD ME

As a general rule, a lawful permanent resident (LPR) of the United States is required to present a valid unexpired Form I-551, Permanent Resident Card (commonly known as “Green Card”) at the airline counter if seeking readmission to the U.S. after a temporary absence of less than one year. If you have an expired 10-year Green Card, you will be required to request a Boarding Foil. Although regulations generally require an LPR to travel with a valid Green Card, CBP policy permits a transportation carrier bound for the United States to board an LPR without carrier documentation if you: are an LPR with an expired Green Card that was issued with a 10-year expiration date; or are an LPR who has an expired Green Card with a 2-year expiration date AND you also have the original Form I-797, Notice of Action, showing that you filed a Form I-751 or Form I-829 to remove the conditions on your permanent resident status. The Notice of Action extends the validity of the card for a specified length of time, generally one year. For further information, please refer to our website: https://br.usembassy.gov/visas/green-card-holders/ If you have any doubts, please send a message to: immigrationrio@state.gov

Dear *****
Our CBP officers will let you re-enter the US with the expired green card and extension letter from USCIS.  You can contact the airline for their rules, and they may want you to have a temporary I-551 stamp in your passport from USCIS.
