Filing at which centre?

When I file, I am not sure which address to use as my last US address.

The last time I lived on US soil was at RAF Feltwell here in the UK - paid taxes to that as well.

But the last place I lived in the US itself was Oklahoma - so I am not sure where to file.

Any suggestions?

 RAF Feltwell is not US soil. If you live overseas and are trying to get your spouse here, why not try DCF? Word is, its noticebly faster that the SCs in the USA.

Sorry, I am the US citizen filing for a F1 fiancee visa, he is British, I am a US Citizen.

According to the US, the military base IS US Soil - believe me, filing taxes was interesting that year.

We are not married yet, we were told that the process would be much faster if we waited and did the F1.

I don't want to go through the Texas processing centre, but if we have to, we will.

Many thanks.

hmmm... im in the military, and I can tell you, US installations overseas, are not US territories, they are rented from the host country. As for the taxes, since you are a US citizen, you will pay US taxes if you are employed by the US.... An F1 visa is a student visa, not a fiancee visa. Seriously, why not just get married and file DCF? It would be much quicker than applying for a K-1 fiancee visa.

Sorry, I meant K1 Visa not F1 - I was watching the racing when I typed it.

How long does the DCF take?

I would really love to just elope sometimes, but my family want to be there. My sister wants to get ordained on the internet so she can do the ceremony LOL!

hmm, well, I dont know the exact timetable for DCF because i filed K-1, but i do know its noticably faster. Even with K-1, its very hard to plan a lavish wedding because its not easy to predict when your fiance will recieve his visa, and you have to marry within 90 days of entry to the US. Doesnt leave too much time to plan a big wedding. Many people filing K1 have a civil ceremony upon arrival to the US and then have a big planned out wedding later. If you wish to learn more about DCF, there is a forum section on Vj dedicated to DCF. If you wish to file I-129f, you would file your petition at the service center that has jurisdiction over your last stateside address, which in this case would be Texas Service Center.

I won't have a job when I first move to the USA - we are staying with my mom until we get established, which shouldn't take long. This means that I cannot file the proof of support for my spouse, which I think means we cannot file for DCF. I have also not filed US taxes in about 8 years - I was told that because my income was not US income that I did not need to until I return to the USA - also a factor in the DCF.

Thanks for the help, but it doesn't look possible :(

We probably will wind up having a very small ceremony when we get there. You are right, planning something like a wedding is hard when you aren't sure about the timeline. There are a few venues that I love, but without a date I cannot book one.

Thank you again for your help, it is much appreciated.

Are they doing DCF again? Anywho, look into the tax situation, since you still need to file the I-134 with the K1. On the forms, I believe they say use the last address in the US you had. Which would be Ok, not the military base. Regarding the wedding, look into having it on a weekday. Most places dont book up for Thursday nights so you might be able to get what you want on very short notice.

I was told that they are doing DCF again.

I worry that the tax thing will hold us up.

I want to try and get married either on the weekend on Thanksgiving or New Years - but I won't book anything until we get the approved forms!

Thank you everyone for your help.

I'll finish replying to you in the DCF Forum, buuuut

DCF is possible for USCs resident abroad.

All USCs MUST report their worldwide income, including you (you will not necessarily owe tax or be required to file a return). The IRS in London is super-duper helpful.

DCF beats a K-1 filing hands down for the additional benefits. Your living situation doesn't bar you from filing locally---I can't see anything you've posted anywhere that would bar you from marrying there and filing (you've answered the residency Q).
