Sorry if this is a really retarded question. I printed off a P85 leaving the United Kingdom form, filled it in and now am looking for the address to send it to. I have search on http://www.hmrc.gov.uk to no avail. Can someone provide me with the correct address to send a P85?

Many thanks in advance,

All the best

Martin

I had a similar problem with mine. However, I asked someone else and they said to send it to the tax office listed on your P60. I got my refund after about 2 months, so this was the correct advice.

Everyone's is different depending on where they live and work, so actually telling you where I sent mine wouldn't help you! :D

I actually took mine in to the tax office in the town I lived, I dont even know if that was the correct tax office but they accepted it and I got my refund.

Hmm... P85? When I left the UK I just got on a plane. Was I supposed to fill out a form?

Oh yes and it is not too late to do so, they will send it to your address in America and you can deposit it into your bank account, that is what I did the last time I did this. You receive a certain amount of tax back for the year you worked and it is not to be sniffed at either lol.

To be honest, I never worked before i left for the USA. 7 years in higher education and then I "brain drained" myself onto the first plane to California!

So how does that refund work exactly? Dave knows about how much he paid in total, but doesn't the new year start in April? He has no clue and the lady that does their accounting work doesn't have a clue either, since she's never moved out of the country? Would be a nice thing to know about how much could be expected lol

April 21 Dave arrives in America!

April 28 WE GET MARRIED!!!

May 9 Went to SS office and was denied

May 15 After gathering all paperwork, told we must file through DORA program

July 19 DORA appointment - they send paperwork to Chicago after this.

July 24 Paperwork is received by Chicago

August 9 Notice for Biometrics appointment

August 28 NOAs for AOS/EAD

Sept 6 Biometrics

Sept 26 Email saying card production ordered for EAD.. YES!!!

Oct 9 EAD card, Yay!!!!!

Dec 31 Finally got the Resident card! Yay!!!

It depends on when you leave your job if the tax year is almost done you probably wont get much if anything back. I left my job in May so the tax year had just started and therefore my allowance was not used up so I got pretty much all my tax back.
