Priority Date/Visa in hand 2 questions

Hi- Is the Priority Date the day USCIS receives the initial I130 application? Second question: I seem to recall that after my interview at the consulate, my passport was taken and a temporary visa was inserted in my passport and then i had to pick it up a few days later. If my memory is correct I had 6 months to cross the border/ POE with this temporary visa to become a permanent resident. Is it standard that they give everyone a 6 months timeframe between visa issuance and POE? Thanks

Yes

Immigrant visas are one-time use visas, and valid for POE almost always six months from the date of the medical.

Correct information!

Immigrant visas are issued only for the validity time of the medical exam, as you must have a valid medical exam at the POE.  Medical exams expire after 6 months.   

 

Example: You have your medical done in January and you're approved in January- your visa would be valid for 6 months. 

 

Example: You have your medical done in January and you're approved at your interview in April- your visa would expire in 2 months.

05/03/2018- VISA APPROVAL!!!
05/14/2018- Visa issued
05/18/2018- Visa picked up
05/25/2018- HE'S HOME!!! 💙💙💙

I have been wondering about this very thing recently, thanks for the clarification.
