How critical is it for petitioner to have visited beneficiary's home country?

We are January i129F filer. I have met my fiancee in person in 2 separate occasions in the last 10 months but we always meet on a 3rd country. We do this because it allows us both to travel to countries/places we have never been to. Also I will admit that with the surge of state-sanctioned murders (although many don't believe it but I do) I do not want my fiancee to come to my country. Would this have an impact in our application?

Thank you. I will greatly appreciate feedback especially of those with the same case.

As long as you have met in-person within 2 years of filing your petition and have provided proof (airlines tickets, passport stamps, photos, etc) it does not matter where.  You'll be fine.

Good luck!

Some embassies are tougher and would like to see the petitioners visiting the country, meeting family, etc.

Luckily for you Manila seems to be the easiest embassy and more than likely you won't have any trouble because of that.

good luck

Why do you feel that you do not want your fiance to visit Pinas? My asawa is from Mindanao and I have went there many times without incident. I love it there and I will keep going no matter what. As long as you are not involved in the drug trade you and him will be fine.

You are aware of the US travel ban to the Philippines, right? My fiancee follows the news here. It's not all pretty.

There is not a US travel ban to the entire Philippines at all. There is a travel warning to Mindanao and a ban for the Sulu Islands. But there is no out right ban at all. That was some junk news story that has already got debunked. If you questions about the visa process and how it's done in the Philippines subforum and we will gladly help you out. But a number of us Kanos travel to Mindanao a lot with no problems. My profile picture is of me at a fiesta down in Panabo City.

But to your question no they won't care at all as long as you can prove that y'all met. But you might get a question on why he didn't visit your family.

Yikes.. I don't need a gun-toting white male to defend the beauty and attractions of my country. And travel ban, travel warning, different wording still don't sound right. People still get killed, some unfortunately get their heads chopped off.

I'm not only concerned about safety, I'm primarily more concerned not letting my fiancee spend his hard-earned money supporting an administration that oppress the poor and have no respect for human rights. He can take his money elsewhere. Somewhere where the defenseless aren't shot in the back of the heads while they were gagged and bound. That's an entirely awful topic that could be discussed elsewhere.

This website is amazing, so many helpful members.

And oh about my fiancee meeting my family, thanks for asking. He's met them. I have a small family who no longer resides in PH. He had a wonderful time. Best of all he didn't have to buy a cattle to make it happen.

After my husband proposed to me back then, he asked me if he should come to Philippines. I didnt want him to come simply because I think it would cost him money, time and leaves. Plus, I dont have a family back in PH that I would want him to meet. It didn't have any issues with our application.

My husband has never ever set foot in PH before the whole process thing. As to why he didnt visited PH,I was never asked about it during my K-1 interview.

To the OP, with that new information that your fiance has met your family as well, I have little doubt you will have problems with your K1 Visa petition.  If available, I would add multiple pictures of your fiance and family together, and label them accordingly.

If you originally met online, make sure to provide information showing the website is not an international marriage broker.  I've read many VJ posts from members that met online receiving RFE's to prove the website they met wasn't an IMB, thus delaying their petitions.  Front loading your application initially by providing the website's terms of service and even requesting an email from the website stating they are not an IMB has helped many VJer from receiving RFEs.

On a side note, as a Filipino born in the US, I haven't been to the PI in 10 years.  Most of my family in the PI live in Metro Manila, Quezon City, and Cagayan Valley.  As much as I would like to return and visit, the news stories from the PI has questioned my safety as well.  Although I've had friends and family visit recently without incident, everyone's comfort level is different.  To each his/her own.

Good luck again on your petition!

Thanks KimchiLumpia. I currently live in QC. As much as I love our country I just cannot support the carnage. I have met my fiancee at work. He works at the US office, I, here in the PH office of the company we work for. We mainly communicated through the office communicator. And although obtaining our chat logs wasn't exactly a difficult task we still had to be careful we werere not breaking any privacy rules thus causing some delays as we had to go through our managers (awkward).

I am at around 90% confident about our application. The 10% is because we sort of rushed it.  We've only been in a relationship for 6 months when we decided we want to be together. We are in our late 30s and we don't exactly have the luxury of time.

I am not trying to start an argument about this or that I am just stating my point of view on things, so don't get mad at me for my statements. Unfortunately my asawa did not have the luxury of having a choice of where she was born, raised, and where her family currently reside. I have been to all over Northern, Central, Eastern Mindanao with no problem at all, and actually I felt less safe being around MM than I do the Davao Region where my asawa lives. Yes of course I understand that there are some very bad people in the Southern part of the Philippines and I recognize where I should or should not go in regards to my safety. You may not like this administration at all, but I have seen the good that this Duterte has done in Davao City first hand, his tactics may suck but he means well. Alot of people I know that poor support him and feel that he speaks for them. They are tired of people from MM trying to dictate what is best for them or how they should feel or think, even though they have never stepped a foot in their province or let alone the region. I know there are some bad elements of the police and they should be dealt with no doubt.

Where is your fiance from in the USA, your profile says local office is in Texas so I am curious? If it is Texas then I am sorry to tell you that there alot of gun toting people in Texas. So you might want to get past that about gun toting white male. My asawa hated it at first too that I have guns in the house with our children (2 from a previous marriage, and two with my asawa). But my two older kids have been taught gun safety, and my 3yr old will learn next year. Now my asawa likes the idea of a pistol in the house when I am away for work.

Anyway I did not know that your fiance met your family but I am glad he did because it does show sincerity. I think you will have absolutely no problem with obtaining a K1 visa at all with that evidence, so don't worry at all. Do you know if he is going to use an attorney or just DIY? If possible and straight forward as it seems you don't need a attorney because you can just the guides on this site and ask questions if there are any, that way y'all can save money. Anyway sorry we got off on the wrong foot but have a good day.
