I'm a US citizen (born here), over 40 yrs, had previous marriage with a girl from Ukraine (I know, I know), had a criminal conviction (non drug, or finance) 20+ years ago, and I just don't know what documents to start gathering, or where/how to search on here.  Any help greatly appreciated.

footnote: I'm planning to visit and marry her on the 7th of April, so three weeks.  I've read on another website that I need some kind of permission from the consular in Manila?

Also,  www.travel.state.gov has a really great flow chart of every step you will need to take.  I followed that and the guides on here to a T and had no RFE's.  Also, visit www.uscis.gov and review the application and instructions for the IR-1/CR-1 Spouse Visa.  Best wishes!

Thanks so much!  I'll go there now.  I forgot to mention that she has a small child from a previous relationship.  Father is absent, but the child stays with his dad's family due to mom (my fiance) working overseas.  I hope there's info on here detailing how to address that also.

Yes, there is plenty of information about step children on here.  You will need to have permission from the father to bring the child over if that is what your plan is.  Best wishes!

Ah, that's good to hear.  I knew we'd have to get permission from him.  I had to do that with my ex wife 15 year ago, but it was easier then because my daughter's dad was nearby.  This isn't the case here.  My bride-to-be's ex isn't anywhere nearby and hard to reach.  Still, we'll try.  Question, do you think 3 weeks is enough time in Philippines to get married?  I hear from my fiance that the gears move very slowly there.

I really don't know about that.  You may want to post that question over in the forum for the Philippines.  Every country is different.  I can only speak for Jamaica lol.

I was just on the US Consulate in Manila's website to book my appointment for the “Affidavit in Lieu of a Certificate of Legal Capacity to Contract Marriage,”  and can't get an appointment for the entire month of April... the time when we've made our wedding plans.  I didn't know I needed to do this until yesterday.  We've already made our wedding plans, she's left work, I've made arrangements for childcare here and bought my ticket.  Can I get this form from another embassy closer to me?  Possibly here in the States, or Mexico?

Ah, ok thanks.  I'm brand new here, and didn't know that there was a separate forum for that.  I'll go find it now.  Thanks again!

You won't have any problem getting an appointment at USEM in Manila in April. They will update the available spots for April soon. You will notice all of the available time slots for notarial services for the remainder of this month.
