OK, so I submitted a whole series of documents for the K-1, then for the AOS, and now for the interview, the paperwork says I need to bring what amount to much of the same documentation. How many times must I send birth certificates? I'm running out of paper!

Do you have to bring in everything AGAIN, even if it's all been submitted already? Perhaps different agencies or offices have the documentation and they need it again. But heck...in an abundance of caution, that's a whole LOT of paper!

For some things on my paper it says (unless already submitted). Other things I believe you were just to have sent a copy to them so they are wanting to see the originals they also suggest you have another copy of those things. I have been present when they seem to not be able to find what they're looking for in files especially the ones that are really thick. So you are right it does seem like a heck of alot of paper, but if you follow what others on here suggest you already have 2 copies of everything anyway ;) Good luck on your interview.

Here's another thing...they want bank accounts, joint liabilities, leases, and so forth, but they won't even allow this person to get a STATE IDENTIFICATION CARD without the green card, so this is a HUGE Catch-22. They won't issue a State ID Card because there is no way to verify her status because the K-1 that gives her the right to be here has expired...regardless of the marriage license, they want a green card!. They want debts, but she can't get credit without permanent residency status (so says the bank!), and the now-expired K-1 Visa will not suffice. They won't even issue a health insurance policy in her name without permanent residency (say the insurance companies!).

SOOOOOOO, insofar as that sort of documentation is concerned (leases, bills, joint accounts, etc), how much do they want to see? What do they want to see?

Anyone??

I would try to add her to your credit card. To be an authorized user. Capital one lets you do it. I was added to health insurance without needing a greencard. Do you have video store cards, or cosco cards? Sorry to hear about that, each state is different I guess  , but at least you can explain it to the interviewer. And getting notarized letters from mutual friends that you are legit is also another option if you do not have alot of evidence.

If she has a SSN this will help. You can open a joint bank account (or have her added to yours), if you're renting - have her name added to the lease. Get a joint movie rental card, joint rental/property insurance (if she has a SSN), have mail sent to you in both of your names, etc.

As far as information for the interview, I would take originals of anything that you copied over the course of your journey including birth certificate, marriage certificate, passport and then make a copy of these for them to keep. Take in as much evidence as you can that you're co-habitating and have ties to each other (such as listed above). There are some pretty interesting ideas from other members, so do a little search and you might find a lot of ways to prove your relationship without a SSN or anything else.
