CR1 visa question for child

MY wife will be approved for a CR1 spouse relative visa. I believe once the cr1 is issued you have to travel to the u.s. within 6months or it expires. My question is, if my spouse travels immediately but leaves her daughter behind to come later, can she return in 5 months pick up her kid and then they both come to the U.S?

I guess 6 months is the maximum allowable time, and for her to return to get her daughter does she need a green card or the visa they stamp at the border will be enough for her to make the round trip?

Thanks....

yes, cr2 for the child, already in process with the main cr1 app

Then the child will get a visa with the mom. The mom can go before the child but the child will have to enter before the date in the passport/visa.
