VJ Members,

My fiancee can't find her historical medical records and is against getting an updated series in Kiev if they are not needed.

Will she be required to get the inoculations to pass the physical for a K1? If so, what are the required inoculations?

Thank you,

George

If she can't prove what innoculations she is supposed to have according to the requirements, be prepared that she will most likely receive them again. She needs documentation proof. That is the point of the medical exam, to make certain she is fully immunized and passes to be issued her visa before entering the US. I don't have the list of immunization shots on hand the embassy requires. I know my fiancee has it. I will ask her for a copy of them and let you know if you don't receive a list if anyone hasn't mentioned it here after I receive them.

My wife from Ukraine also doesn't know what vaccinations she has and doesn't believe her doctors have records, so she's probably going to need to get them again also. Can they do this at the time of the medical exam?

Wife's visa journey:

03/19/07: Initial mailing of I-129F.

07/07/11: U.S. Citizenship approved and Oath Ceremony!

MIL's visa journey:

07/26/11: Initial mailing of I-130.

05/22/12: Interview passed!

Silke,

Very good, thank you!

I understand for the AOS, required inoculations must be on record.

Are any inoculations required to receive a K1 visa?

Vaccinations are NOT required for a K-1. They ARE required for AOS. Most people just get them done at the K-1 exam because it is typically less expensive than waiting to get them here.

From the Embassy website

VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS

(for immigrants only, not for K visa applicants)

Recent changes to US immigration law now require immigrant visa applicants to obtain certain vaccinations (listed below) prior to the issuance of an immigrant visa. Panel physicians who conduct medical examinations on behalf of immigrant visa applicants are now required to verify that immigrant visa applicants have met the new vaccination requirements, or that it is medically inappropriate for the visa applicant to receive one or more of the listed vaccinations:

mumps tetanus influenzae type B (HIB) influenza measles diphtheria hepatitis B rubella toxoids varicella

polio pertussis pneumococcal

You can also ask a doctor to do a bloodtest to see what vaccinations she's already had.

The complete list of required vaccinations for AOS (NOT to receive the K1 although some consulates mistakenly do make this a requirement) can be found here:

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/ty...tml#Vaccination

Vaccination Requirements

All applicants for immigrant visas are required to have the following vaccinations, if appropriate, for age, medical condition, or medical history:

Mumps

Measles

Rubella

Polio

Tetanus and diptheria toxoids

Pertussis

Influenza type B

Hepatitis B

Varicella

Pneumococcal

As a fiancé(e), you are not required to fulfill this requirement at the time of your medical examination for a fiancé(e) visa. However, you may want to do so. These vaccinations are required when you adjust status following your marriage.

I stand corrected! Thanks for the info! This is why we post in open forums!

Yes, this is a VERY helpful site. FWAGUY is very knowledgeable, too! He answered this question for me a month ago. I wished to confirm, my fiancee does not believe me!

She has horror stories of treatment from doctors in Kiev, and wishes to avoid Ukrainian doctors.

I am lucky on 1 aspect for the medical in Kiev. My fiancee's mother is good friends with one of the doctors the consulate appoints to conduct the medical. She's already spoke with him and he will take of it for my fiancee. Not that she has any health problems.

Now if I had known she was friends with one of the big militsa bosses in Odessa, I could've avoided getting jacked for $20 by some young cops! But I know now! ;)
