Visa help needed - what can I do?

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had any advise for my partner and I. We both work in the UK office of a large Boston based company. My boyfriend has pushed to work in the head office for years and just found out (with no notice!) that he has been put forwards for the H1B visa for the 2018 fiscal year.

We were planning to try and go together with myself doing the same thing, however its gone from nothing happening to him potentially moving there in Oct within a week and I haven't had time to really discuss my possibilities in my department, never mind getting everything together in time for this years deadline.

My question is, being in a non-managerial role, is the H1B visa the only option open to me? We have discussed getting married as a way for us to both move over but from what I understand now the working visa's for spouses on the H1B visa have been suspended?

Any advice on this matter would be much appreciated!

If you were married, you'd be eligible for an H4. H4 spouses are not allowed to work unless under very specific circumstances that wouldn't apply to you.

It's also not a slam-dunk that he'd get approved for the H1B, there's a lottery every year.

 

Is he not eligible for an L visa?

No, he isn't senior enough for a L type visa, so the company are proposing the H1B. We realise that he might not get the lottery this year, and if we both apply next year possibly only one or neither of us would get in!! I'd love to be a lady of leisure but I don't think he would be able to support me on his salary alone.

 

I've just been reading about the B1 visa. I know this only goes up to a year, but maybe this could be a way for me to get out there temporarily with him?

There is the B cohabitating, L would seem a much more obvious option that a H. H is likely to be a ####### shoot as usual.
