Anyone have issues with these sorts of discrepancies before? I've always heard 12 months and for the interview it seems 12 months, but now the exam (why does the doctor even care?) needs 6 months. Her certificate expired yesterday (4 days before the exam).

What does the clinic say? Do they specify 6 months?

I don't appreciate the attitude with your "hints".

Who sets the rules, a medical clinic or an embassy? HINT - the embassy obviously.

The US Embassy website for the UK, under their section for the medical, states 6 months.

It's a clear discrepancy and the group responsible ultimately for this process (the embassy) has misleading information.

Ouch!! I sincerely promise you I had no attitude intended at all.  I was only providing a link so you could see that the medical people who made up that requirement don't specify a date.  It was only a way to point out the link. If I had had a pointy finger icon maybe that would have been a better choice.

The way you provided the link in the other thread (which was closed) was perfectly find and without attitude. Using the word "HINT" and then providing the link was unnecessary.

Bottom line "official" websites give different information. If you go to the Embassy website and read about the medical exam it says 6 months. If you go to the clinic website (the one you linked) it doesn't even specify. Honestly not specifying isn't all that helpful. Could be 6 months, could be a year. Could be forever. They don't say.

To be honest I wouldn't trust a UK medical clinic to provide up to date info on their websites. In my experience with my wife UK medical clinics are understaffed at the best of times, so I wouldn't expect them to keep an up to date website. If some rule changed I would expect to find it on the Embassy website long before the Clinic website since the Clinic is basically just following orders.

The medical people DO NOT make up their requirements. They are following orders from the Embassies or perhaps the NVC. I doubt the medical people care about any of it, they just make money. It's the embassies/NVC that set the requirements.

FURTHERMORE:

When you make an appointment with Knightsbridge they send you an email. In that email they give you a link. It DOES NOT link to the website you provide. It links to the embassy (the website I provided). They say the following in their email:

Please follow this link; https://uk.usembassy.gov/visas/family-immigration/medical-examination/ where you can download a PDF document which outlines the medical, maps, and questionnaire.

If you follow that link it takes you straight to where I had originally linked. To point 6, where under required documents it says 6 months. However that very same email further down says 12 months. So they link to a the embassy website that says one thing, while they say another.

We shouldn't excuse people who can't do very simple jobs. Someone needs to keep these things up to date because we all know if we make any mistake in any form they will quickly and easily punish us as applicants. Yet the people who run these processes get off with poorly written websites and incorrect information. There is no accountability.

Again, I am sorry and meant no attitude. I had no idea it would be offensive to you. I didn't know where the previous post and link went so thought I may not have actually hit submit is the only reason I posted again.

The reason I say Knightsbridge started that requirement is because police certificates at the medical was  new requirement sometime after the 2010 Technical Instructions came out concerning mental health.

The current 2015 instructions still say (excerpts)

Mental Health Examination

Observation alone is not sufficient to assess an applicant.

Medical History

The panel physician should review the applicant’s Medical History and Physical Examination Worksheet (DS-3026) and available medical records. To fully investigate the applicant’s past medical history, the panel physician, when possible, should -

  • Obtain other relevant records, such as police, military, school, and employment, that might provide a history of harmful behavior associated with physical or mental disorders.

The embassy, nor NVC,  do not write the clinic instructions. The CDC does. The clinic did not start asking for the other of those suggested things they might use to evaluate, but they did start asking for police certificates. It says "when possible" so sounds like they have some discretion on how they want to assess.

They do update their website when they make changes, for example when four photos  became the requirement on the new medical report forms.  The old forms required one. Their immunization chart was updated several years before the embassy put up the newer 2009 requirements which dropped HPV and others vaccines  or the 2010 changes concerning seasonal flu requirements.

I do not think your wife will have a problem with her police certificate, but that's only an opinion based on the many who have taken older ones or none at all with no repercussions.

I sincerely hope you are right. I am not full of confidence at this point since it seems like at least so far (USCIS and NVC, mostly NVC) we have been continually faced with incompetence and unprofessionalism. Websites are always mislabelled and misleading, people on the phone don't know what they are talking about or will say different things from person to person etc... So I don't really expect anything better at this point. Just need to get her here so we can forget about all this stuff. I've always heard that government run organizations are poorly managed but this is really the first time I've had to deal with it. I'm close to my limit at this point.

I also have very little patience for medical clinics in general since it's my profession. I would hate to work someplace like Knightsbridge where you see people for immigration clearance. It would be like selling my soul.

if it helps any, the issue date of the ACRO certificate has to be within a year.

See the following : https://travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/iv-dv-supplemental/LND - London.pdf

The main NVC site also confirms the year validity which states:

https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/immigrant-process/documents/Supporting_documents.html

Quote

Important: Police certificates expire after one year, unless the certificate was issued from your country of previous residence and you have not returned there since the police certificate was issued. If at the time of your interview the following three items are all true, you must bring a new police certificate to your visa interview:

  • You are more than 16 years old;
  • The police certificate submitted to NVC was obtained more than one year ago; and
  • You still live in the country that issued the certificate.

Hope that helps a little!

We saw all those places. We read every website. The issue was the Embassy's website, under the section about the exam, says 6 months. It is clearly wrong and needs to be fixed. Just good luck getting the government to update the website.

She had her exam and they barely even looked at the certificate. They took a copy and just put it in a folder.
