Timeline

Is this the same as the number that they hand-wrote on the visa on entry? Both my wife and new daughter have this written on the visa, and it is the same number.

I'm unable to answer your question but I'm curious if it is a 8 or 9 digit number which starts with an A? If you would like to check if that is indeed your Alien Number, you can try to refer to the NOA2 hardcopy that you guys received during the petition process. There is a box for A-number on the top right side of the notice :) 

 

As for the child, I'd think she gets her own A-number since she is a different individual and the A-number is a unique identifier for each non-citizen, created by USCIS during a petition/application. That is the person's number for life. I might be incorrect but perhaps you can check with USCIS on that if no one is giving any "sure" response here.
