I-864 Question regarding tax returns

Hi everyone,

 

I'm trying to find information about this but I keep finding conflicting information, so I'm hoping that someone who has gone through this recently can help us!

 

We are in the process of getting everything ready for the AOS from K-1, and I'm finding the I-864 confusing. 

 

Question 18a asks if my fiance has filed the three most recent years tax returns. 

- he filed for 2015 and 2016, but he was not working in 2014 so he did not file. Do we answer yes or no to this question?

 

Question 20 says "I was not required to file a federal tax return..."

- as I understand, this would be in regards to the most recent year (which he did file) so we would leave this blank, correct?

Thanks for your rapid response, we will attach an explanation. 

 

However, that didn't answer the questions I had regarding the form. Do we answer yes or no for question 18a? And do we leave question 20 blank?
