All my questions in one place

So we are filling out the various AOS forms and have a list of questions.

I have tried calling the uscis many times.  They literally refuse to answer questions about the forms.  It's unbelievable.  It's their forms but they say they are unable to answer anything about the form and told me to see a lawyer.

Any help is appreciated.

AOS Form I-485

Part 1:
  • Family Name:  Is the K1 visa holder (female) supposed to use her Maiden name OR is she supposed to put in her married name?
    • Does her name change automatically once married or is there more paperwork to be done to make that happen?
  • "C/O"  - should this be the K1 holder's name as well?  OR the petitioner's name?
  • "Aline Number:"  -   what does this represent?  Is it the number found on previous documents?  If so ,, which document and how would we recognize it?
  • "Current USCIS Status" -   What do we put here?  The instructions are unclear to me.

Travel Authorization Form I-131

  • Family Name:  Is the K1 visa holder (female) supposed to use her Maiden name OR is she supposed to put in her married name?
  • "C/O"  - should this be the K1 holder's name as well?  OR the petitioner's name?
  • Part 1 #6:   "Class Admission",,   what is this and how do we know what to put here?
  • Part 3:  Most of these questions seems to imply that there is already a trip planned.  I was told that we could apply for a TA without set travel plans in place so that it is ready to be used if/when my fiance needs to travel home.  Is this correct or not?   Can this section be left "open" for now?

G-325A :
  • We already filled this out for the K1 process.  Does it need to be redone again or can the same form already submitted for the k1 visa be used again?  Is there an expiration date on our signatures if the information has not changed?
  • Also again, is the k1 visa holder to use her maiden name or her married name?
  • Is she to now use her current USA address or her former address?

So if she took your name when you guys got married then that is her new name and the marriage certificate is proof of that.

You want her GC and other documents to be in her new married name so you use her new name and list her old name under other names use.

It will cost $400 to get her name changed on GC if you do not do this.

Everything on all this is about her. You are only needed for the I-864

Yes a new G-325A should be filed out.

Here is example forms filed out:  http://www.visajourney.com/content/examples/

I haven't arrived at this stage myself, but I have been through the adjustment of status process for myself. Looking at the form/instructions now, here is my interpretation:

Family Name - they will want her current last name. If they want her maiden name, they will ask for it as "previous name"  I don't see any such request.

C/O - If you are fine having any correspondence addressed directly to the applicant, you can leave this blank. It's optional.

Alien number - this is your "A-number" A+9 digit. It should be on correspondence received from USCIS

Current USCIS Status - I can look at my old paperwork, but I believe it would be "K-1 Visa" And then add the expiry date

Travel Auth I-131 - unfortunately, I have no experience with the Travel Authorization. I would need to look into it.

G-325A - If they have requested the document, you will need to complete it again. Even if it seems redundant! Since she is now here in the US with a new married name, I would imagine the info would be different and you cannot use the same form.

AOS Form I-485

Part 1:
  • Family Name:  Is the K1 visa holder (female) supposed to use her Maiden name OR is she supposed to put in her married name? Marriage certificate serves as a legal name change document. If she took your last name then that is now her family name
    • Does her name change automatically once married or is there more paperwork to be done to make that happen?
  • "C/O"  - should this be the K1 holder's name as well?  OR the petitioner's name? I just put my name (US citizen) to avoid not filling everything out
  • "Aline Number:"  -   what does this represent?  Is it the number found on previous documents?  If so ,, which document and how would we recognize it? This would have been listed on some of the USCIS correspondence
  • "Current USCIS Status" -   What do we put here?  The instructions are unclear to me. She is  K1 fiance

Travel Authorization Form I-131

  • Family Name:  Is the K1 visa holder (female) supposed to use her Maiden name OR is she supposed to put in her married name?  See above
  • "C/O"  - should this be the K1 holder's name as well?  OR the petitioner's name?
  • Part 1 #6:   "Class Admission",,   what is this and how do we know what to put here?  I do not see that on the form...?
  • Part 3:  Most of these questions seems to imply that there is already a trip planned.  I was told that we could apply for a TA without set travel plans in place so that it is ready to be used if/when my fiance needs to travel home.  Is this correct or not?   Can this section be left "open" for now? My husband and I put down some tentative plans that we had and ended up not even going when we said...

  • We already filled this out for the K1 process.  Does it need to be redone again or can the same form already submitted for the k1 visa be used again?  Is there an expiration date on our signatures if the information has not changed? Per the form instructions on USCIS.gov yes you have to send this in.
  • Also again, is the k1 visa holder to use her maiden name or her married name? See above
  • Is she to now use her current USA address or her former address? Use the address that she is currently residing

Hope this has been of some help.
